2020 DT prospects

Armstead will be playing 3T most likely with Jones at the other tackle spot. They'll definitely add more on the DL but Brown will very likely be gone and potentially Kinlaw too. At that point there are no DTs worth taking at #13.

Who would you replace Buckner with if not Kinlaw or Brown? You also have to make sure you plug the middle so teams don't run up the gut on you. Jones isn't an every down player...help's got to come from somebody else. It's not really about the sacks, but the consistent pressure/push up the middle to make it easier for Bosa/Ford, et al to get after the QB.

Check out the most recent drafts. How many interior DL drafted in recent years have put up numbers even close to Buckner? Most IDL drafted high in recent years have underwhelmed. Drafting interior DL is super risky. Most of them do not become great pass rushers.

You can find guys to "plug the middle," which is actually NOT what the 49ers want from their interior guys, later in the draft. But the 49ers want penetrators, not pluggers.

How good this OT class is my only hope Kinlaw could be there.
At 31 Blacklock and maybe Espensa. Espensa is nice can play inside or out. Combine wasn't great so maybe he slides.

I personally think they should keep Armstead in the role(BE in base/3T in sub packages) that got him paid today. Regardless we still need more interior pass rush now.
SF met with Ross Blacklock and he's a guy they could move down a little (2nd 1st rd pick) and get.

He fits the mold they like. He's got a great motor is pretty twitched up and can play 0-tech to 5-tech.

He's best suited as a one gap penetrator. Ideal for this scheme.

I like Blacklock, but I like James Lynch even more. Lynch is an animal, watch him frequently split double teams, and you'll see what I mean. I would LOVE it if we snagged him. I think he may drop to the third because among the other top DL, he has the shortest arms of all of them (31 7/8"). That's really poor length even for an IDL if you're taking them in the top 2 rounds.

Not sure the pecking order I'd place on these guys right now, but we seem clearly destined to take an IDL in this draft.

I'd recommend watching the following guys:

Larell Murchison, NC State - Can play every spot on the DL, including 0T/NT.

McTelvin Agim, Arkansas - Can play both 3T/5T

Marlon Davidson, Auburn - Top 3T target.

Ross Blacklock, TCU - Obviously a potential 3T target.

I truly haven't watch a ton of IDL this yr...guess that changes now.

Blacklock I watched a little after it was reported that we visited with him. All I've see with Lynch (from what I've read) is he's a high motor guys with subpar athletics and lacks burst? I've seen him from the late 4th-6th rd as far as big boards go.

I'll check him and some other dudes out.

Lynch is a power prospect with underrated athletic ability who uses great handwork to disengage. I was surprised how well he split double-teams despite the lack of length. Matt Miller grades Lynch a top 10 DT in this class. NFL.com labels him as a guy with starter potential but would likely start as a reserve. Rang projects 2nd round. I trust Rang, but don't always agree. I don't think he goes that high. I predict a high to low range of 3rd to 5th. He's a good prospect, my only concern is if his other traits are good enough to overcome the arm length issue.

Not to say he's anything near a Kittle-type of player, but if he falls to the 5th like Kittle did, he'd be a steal in my opinion. NFL.com's comparison to Matt Ioannidis is spot on I think.

BLACKLOCK - Intrigue w/this kid... his motor runs like John Randle, but his production doesn't show that.. I wouldn't draft him until the 3rd.

LYNCH - I have more question about this kid than Blacklock because the heart at times is never enough.. another 3rd IMO
Nice find fellas. Gotta dig in on these dudes and I agree we go top rated WR at 13 and trade down a bit and find one of these guys later that fits us. We got some good options here

I think so too, unless somehow Dee Ford is going to be out there on base downs (he won't). My guess is Bosa-Street/Thomas/Taylor (whoever is the best of the bunch)-Jones-AA on base downs, then Ford-AA-Street/Thomas/Taylor/Blair (whoever is the best of the bunch)-Bosa on 3rd down. It's amazing how different everything looks and feels just typing all of that out. Still a plenty good enough Dline.
Thoughts on Jordan Elliott Out of Missouri. Kid Looks like a one gapping DT. Feel like he would fit this scheme nicely.

PFF loves him and has a 1st rd grade other places have him from the 2nd-4th rd on their big board.

Disclaimer: while review hasn't been exhaustive, 1st round seems totally absurd to me. Watched Elliot against South Carolina and he was the last guy off the ball every single time. Played with poor pad level, and got pancaked. These things are coachable, granted, but a guy that needs this much work I wouldn't touch until the 4th round. On the positive side, he does seem capable of shedding blocks usually and he knows how to use his length to his advantage. To be frank though, I see Murchison and Agim as potentially better prospects that are also more versatile.
