Interesting comments on this page and all are valid. They point out that we have some holes that need to be filled and not really enough draft picks or cap space to address them all unless we get really lucky and nail every pick. The only way I see us taking Kinlaw would be if the top 3 receivers are gone by #13 and he slides back. Probably won't happen but there are usually a couple of surprises in every draft.

And whose to say the Jags don't take him, after they don't have much in the middle of their D-line either. Every year there's a reach in the top 10 and this might sorta be it.

If AA goes down we won't have an interior rush.
I'm not saying I would take Kinlaw over Jeudy. I'm saying that taking a prospect like Kinlaw wouldn't be the end of the world and it makes sense cause his contract would be staggered with AA's.
DJ Jones is one of the most underrated pass rushers on this team. He's got a very quick first step and plays with probably the best leverage out of all the DT's, see his sack on Russell Wilson and his game on Monday Night vs. Green Bay.
With the way the rules are now, the saying "Defense wins Championships" is slowly disappearing by the season. It's time the 9ers finally have premiere receivers than just another DT in rotation.

lolwut?
Not literally closed but statistically it's not happening.
Understanding your window is very important. We have multiple big contracts we have to dish out soon. It's not unreasonable to make cap room then come back in 2021 to make a real push.

I agree with the second part completely. We need help in other areas. I'm just saying drafting a DT wouldn't be the end of the world. Remember when people were crying we drafted Bosa cause it's another dlineman ? Yeah... how did that turn out?

We've drafted one edge rusher in the top 50 since 2012 and that was Tank...SF has spend 3 top 20 picks on DT since 2015.
I would much rather get Blacklock, Davidson, Madubuike, Elliott, Murchison, Davis etc later in the draft OR sign a DT like Harris, Jernigan, Wolfe etc.
It shouldn't be investing in the same position over and over imo. Balance is important.

I know that, that's why I didn't include him as a DT.
Thomas/buck/AA are all true DTs and were used as such in college.

No I don't remember that. I only remember the ones who cited political or injury reasons.

Defense still wins championships, but specifically, it's the defenses that can get after the QB and create turnovers and not exclusively the ones that are regarded as "top 5," "top 10." The NFL has always been a score points+create turnover league, but it's even more amplified today.
And totally agree about DJ Jones. He's a damn good player.

Bosa was already brought up in the OP, didn't think I had to say Bosa again

Well there were plenty of them.

Only way I'm down with that is in a trade down.
You said it yourself the amount of resources allocated does not matter if the position group still stands to be upgraded and the DL is no exception
Having to trade an all pro wanting 21 mil after just paying another DL 17 mil per, is the EXACT reason you don't spend several first round picks on one position group.

Except, it's not. If Kinlaw is an all pro level talent himself, you have the same production with room to spend elsewhere.
It's not this simple, but let's say each player on a team has a numerical value with regards to how much better they make the team. Let's say Buckner was a 20 and so losing him puts our team at -20. Let's say Kinlaw is a +16. Sure, 2020 to 2019 we got worse because we had to lose Buckner. But does that +16 mitigate the loss more than adding say Lamb who the team may value as a 14? This is the same old debate we have every year, BPA vs need. And before someone says it, yes, Kinlaw might be BPA at a position of need, because DT is far from set.
