I just don't see how you can think CB is not a need.

We don't need a starter but IMO we need depth in the here & now and talent to develop for beyond 2020. So not necessarily an area we need to spend a first or second round pick on, but if one we really like falls into our laps the it would be a solid pickup.

CB is absolutely an area of need. Sherm is easily the best we have, and he is getting old and slowing down.....plus this is his last year under current contract.
But yeah, I agree we should upgrade safety too.

You always need depth at corner and safety. For whatever reason those positions always seem to get injured. Maybe it's because they have to do so much running and change of direction that it's only a matter of time before something blows up. They also have to make a lot of tackles. Playing DB in the NFL might be one of the most physically taxing things in sports.
Furious if they don't trade down and get some picks in rd 3 & 4

Correct...we need a pair of cover corners. We did not and do not have a corner who can stick with a guy all over the field. Nobody we have can do that. Sherm used to be able to do that but after the Achilles, no way. We NEED a cover corner. Starter OL first, starter DT second and WR 3rd....or get the CB there.

You are correct, except that value isn't always available where you need help. They have to take the BPA at position of need. This draft is very strong at WR and very deep so in this draft WR taken in late rd 3 would normally be rd 2 value. Therefore best to trade down and load up on bargain basement BPA players in rd 3-4 like WR, developmental high potential OL and CB
Anything other than a WR at 13

Kinlaw - don't like the direct replacement for Buckner and, I think there will be better players available. IMO he is too much of a boom or bust for what this team needs. Take one of the top 3 wr, one of the top 4 OT, or trade down.
We've got good corners now that witherspoon is out of the picture.

We have much bigger problems elsewhere -- OL, WR, DL.

Our oline sucks at pass pro and almost got jimmy killed multiple times.

We MUST address this meaningfully in the draft.

Especially since there is no guarantee richburg comes back 100%.

We just lost 850 all pro snaps up front. Major loss.

Sanders incredibly was not retained. We have no reliable catcher at wr.

Question how many corners did we lose this offseason? Zero. ANd the ones we have are ok.

SO, no, I don't see cb as a position of NEED. It would be nice to grab depth there.

But I wouldn't spend my biggest draft capital there, no way.

We play a lot of zone coverage. The type of corner you're describing seems like a better fit for man coverage.

If they don't take a stud DE or OL if one is available and a scheme fit. I believe you have to protect the passer and get after the passer to consistently win football games.

You keep both lines fresh and strong. Ford's knee won't be getting better only worse. You lost Buckner. Thry have to account for that. Screw a CB. Is it important sure but without a pass rush doesn't matter. As for our OL well everyone knows those issues.

QB,OL, pass rusher in the 1st. Get your WR in the 2nd cause they need to trade one of those picks for more capital. Let me just say I would love a WR in the 1st but I don't think it's smart unless you absolutely love a guy and think he can be one of the best. Drafting an OL is boring but is more important at this time.

Agree, OL and DL in the 1st. Trade down with at least one of the picks.
I figure this thread is good for a similar question that makes anyone willing to reminisce past drafts.

Has there ever been a draft pick you were upset with at the time that later proved you wrong?

Example, I was not a fan of the McGlinchey pick but am glad we have him. At the time I did not like the Aldon Smith pick, but didn't take long to love the pick. At the time I thought we would go QB even though it seemed like a weak class but I liked Robert Quinn better than Aldon. Its tough because of what happened to Aldon but when he played he was so dominant. Sorry to bring that back up, but any that turned into

Good post.

I've hated picks that turned out to be great and loved picks that ended horribly.

These days I watch enough footage of prospects to get a feel for them but am through with the armchair gm game. The guys in charge of drafting for the 49ers have forgotten more about football this week than I'll ever know. No front office is perfect but I trust Lynch, Shanahan and co. I'll be just fine with whatever they decide to do.
CJ Henderson at 13 and Higgins at 31 is my nightmare scenario
