Not sold on 49ers picking a WR with 13th Pick

Will probably be too busy so here goes...

49ers 13th Pick Probable Takes (IMO)

1. Derrick Brown
2. Tristan Wirfs
3. Javon Kinlaw
4. CJ Henderson
5. Henry Ruggs
6. CeeDee Lamb
7. Andrew Thomas
8. Jerry Jeudy

I'd guess

1. Kinlaw
2. Wirfs
3. Ruggs

If Derick Brown is there at 13 that means the NFL isn't as high on him as we all thought, which would likely be because of his "weakness" (using the term loosely as it is relative just to a top 15 pick) being his impact as a pass rusher. This would put Kinlaw at DT1, I would assume.

Brown could be there at 13. He's a good but not elite athlete for his size and has baby hands for a guy that big (9"). Run-stuffing DT is a tough value proposition in the top 10 even though he's a great player. The only guys I'd pencil in as definitely not being available are Burrow, Young, Okudah, and Simmons. Tu'a likely goes top 12, but he has question marks.

It's gonna suck sweating through those first twelve picks especially the damn Raiders

It really is. Last year's draft was too easy. I don't think they are so fixated on speed anymore however. Knowing Jon Gruden, if he's taking a receiver, I think Jeudy is his guy.

Captain obvious comment, but it really depends on how the board falls. There might be a surprise team that takes a WR in the 1st 12 picks. [CAR has LSU's OC]

I would draft Evans and 13 not Ross. I like Lamb and 13. I'm not a Jerry Jeudy fan at 13 I could be totally wrong I think Justin Jefferson is comparable to Jeudy and they should be drafted around the same position. Move Justin Jefferson up or Jeudy down ? About the OL I think they like OL that can move and most of there starting OL is around 300LB to 315Lb. I don't think they want to draft a 320 to 330lb OL. The only highly rated OL that are around there are Andrew Thomas and Jedrick Wills, I really like Wills. What would be my dream pick Jeff Okudah or Jedrick Wills falling to 13. I think there both elite plus both at a position of need and I think they will both be gone before 13. If they take anyone of the WR or even CJ Henderson at 13 I would be ok with it.

I still think they draft a WR first, but not at 13. I think they trade down once or twice, get an extra pick or two and go WR, OL, CB early.

I see the dude from USC, or someone like him being a target, while adding an OL pick in the process.

Why would ShanaLynch spend a high pick like 13 on a WR? There will be no training camp this year due to Covid. And if the season is still going ahead, how on earth will a rookie WR learn KS's playbook, get his timing down with the offence, build rapport with JG, etc? His contribution to the offence would be zero until maybe week 8. His real contributions would be for the following season when he has time and a training camp to pick up KS's playbook. A stud rookie OT or DL is going to get a lot work right off the bat in the regular season. Better for ShanaLynch to pick up a promising WR in the later rounds and coach him up for a year.

You bring up some interesting points. I hadn't considered how covid may impact draft decisions.

thank you. even under normal circumstances rookie WRs are not that impactful. No 1000 yard rookie receivers in the last 5 years. Meanwhile, a guy like Ruiz is taking ever snap next year, blocking on every run and giving Jimmy time on every throw.

If they are going to be a legit star WR, I'm fine waiting until Week 8 for a contribution to the offense. Playoffs and SB are what matter, and KB can get us by through Week 8, and maybe Hurd as well if he is past his injury. Then let our young star WR take over.

what does take over mean? 5 targets, 3 catches for 53 yards? this offense isnt predicated on a WR taking over. that's why Sanders left. this is not a WR friendly offense. we want you to block and catch tough balls over the middle.

Big facts. And for whatever reason, a lot of people on here don't seem to understand this.

Kyle's offense is a holistic offense. He's never going to feed one guy because one guy doesn't determine where the ball is going. Everything is based on what the defense is playing and coverage beaters.

Sanders left because we COULD NOT AFFORD HIM with the cap. You think if we could have kept him on a 2yr, 10m deal he would be gone?

A guy like Ruggs will affect the game even with only 5 targets...as the other times he is not targeted the defense has to account for him which opens things up more for Kittle and Deebo and the run game.

If we kept Sanders I'd be fine not going WR early. But since we did not, I refer a WR at 13 if their name is Jeudy/Ruggs, or one in the latter first round or early second. KB is not going to cut it all year, and God forbid Deebo gets injured. Those tough balls over the middle are slants that a guy like Ruggs takes to the house.

I'm fine with Kinlaw or Thomas at 13, or whoever else they are high on that is not a WR, but if they go WR it certainly won't be a bad thing either.

I cannot understand why the Niners would take another DT at 13. I realize they just traded an All Pro DT, but they so signed AA to a huge deal. Plug AA into the 3T and call it a day. Also, this is their last year to evaluate Soloman Thomas, who was the highest DT pick of this entire line. I havent seen anything that leads me to believe ST is a difference maker, but this is their last year to give him a chance at consistent snaps on the interior.

They could try AA at big end and give ST an extended look at DT. If that doesn't pan out, let AA slide into the DT spot and lock the position down for the life of his contract.

If anything, they should be targeting a developmental DE after day 2.

It's either WR, OT or trade down for me this year at 13.
