Not sold on 49ers picking a WR with 13th Pick

I agree. Don't fix what's not broke.

Unless we get a DE who can rush and stop the run like Zuniga.

But no one likes him apparently only me.

This is correct and for parts of last season, we DID lose our #1 and or #2 receiving targets. But a decent OLine and KS scheming turned the running game into a strength. We won even without those receiving targets available.

You could say that about every team...if they lose their #1 or #2 target (like we did with Kittle for a couple games, Sanders too), it's going to effect you. It's rare to have 3 top notch passing options esp. for a non spread offense.

And we also played a s**t ton of subpar talent because we had the 2nd to worst team in 2018. Our schedule going forward is gonna be much much harder. They're gonna have to throw the ball more.

They've even said that..

Quote to note: "They talked to me a lot about being versatile and that they'd used me anywhere with the offense. They want a chance to use my speed. In the (NFC Championship Game), they threw the ball eight times, and they said, 'We look to change that.' " – TCU wide receiver Jalen Reagor, after meeting with the 49ers at the scouting combine.

1) They'd think they're smart enough to fill other positions

2) Money

Hmmm. And I am watching the super bowl screaming pound the mother effin rock. RUN THE BALL. And now evaluating WRs by their run blocking ability. I sure hope we dont double down on trying to get Jimmy 300 yards a game just to prove something.

This.

This. Kyle will ride the wave to win. That said, it will be year 2 of the WCO, so I would expect a slight uptick per game. Like 30 passing attempts a game to 32 or so.

I'm just curious how all of a sudden those late 1st round/early 2nd round DTs that everyone "loved" all of a sudden stink and they have to take a DT at 13, if that's the direction?

To be fair. Schedules are broken down like this

6 games vs division

4 games vs a NFC division (on a rotation)

4 games vs an AFC division (on a rotation)

Then only two games are based off what your record was. Packers also sucked in 2018 because of no A Rod so we had to play them. As well as redskins.

This year our two games are Packers again. And Saints(who we played last year anyways). So it'll be one game tougher, not a huge difference since we get to play NFC and AFC east.

Dante Petrie is going to be the best WR in camp no need for WR

Yes, I know the draft is full of quality WRs, some say the best WR class in years. And yes, we lost Emmanuel Sanders, and people say we need to replace him with one of the elite WRs available in the draft. But I don't think that in KS offensive schemes, a WR is as important as perhaps it is for other teams. Last season, JG completed 329 passes, of these 102 were caught by TEs. Namely, Kittle with 85, Dwelley with 15, and Toilolo with 2. That's almost one third of passes thrown, caught by a TE. Of the remaining 226 passes caught, 74 were caught by RBs and an FB. This means that 53% of passes were caught by a Non WR. I don't know if its the same with other teams, but it seems to me that KS schemes people open, people with good hands, regardless of the position they play. Are we bereft of quality WRs without Sanders? I don't think so. Deebo is certainly going to get increased targets, and Bourne is a serious Red Zone threat. We have added a veteran Travis Benjamin, and we still have the side players like Pettis, Goodwin, James, Wilson, and Matthews. They know they have to step up their games, especially with the returns of Jalen Hurd and Trent Taylor. There must be a reason that KS and John Lynch kept those 2 on injured reserve, and I am excited to see what they can do. And if they decided they really needed another WR, there are a lot of decent WRs in FA right now. I can't believe that the top 5 WRs in the draft are significantly better then some of these FA WRs out there right now. So much better that they warrant a first round pick on. Because of all these reasons, I just don't see JL and KS drafting a WR with the 13th pick. Maybe with the 31st pick if they don't trade out of it.

If Kinlaw, Derrick Brown, or wishful thinking, Chase Young/Isiah Simmons were there at 13, I think they have to go with one of them. Good rushers don't always hit the Free Agency Market, and if they did, there is a big demand for them. Not so much for FA WR. The front office needs to go defence with this first pick. Just my 2 cents.

If Chase Young was on the board, then yeah. Disagree with Kinlaw and Brown. Look, until our DTs start showing some signs of being bad, I don't see why guys are so eager to spend investment.

Outside of Deebo, our receivers are terrible or question marks. Bourne is overrated.

fixed. Because to say that is very bold, James.
I can understand the reservation about drafting a WR at 13 (sorta). But IMO, the pick needs to be something that can help Jimmy almost immediately. So if there is a franchise left tackle worthy player to be drafted at 13, who can plug into guard until Staley is ready to hang them up, I am ok with it. But if there is not, and one of these elite WR prospects is there, you have to roll the dice. Give Jimmy as much as we possibly can. I wouldnt be upset with line, but WR is the pick

I will say that the idea that we should be drafting a defensive tackle is not something I can get down with. Would be so far down the list of positions to fill, in spite of Buckner leaving. It honestly makes so little sense to me, that I cant believe people are advocating for it.

Cannot even fathom a DT. Are people just trolling? At least last year, it kinda made sense with Quinnen Williams.

Of course, I say this, but this is probably what the Niner brain trust will do anyway. And then crash the webzone servers. A couple of users will get warned and banned
@Vancouver dude our list of receivers is a junk pile of maybes. I agree with you that we should take a stud on D if he is available. Not just because defo is gone but because it doesn't look like ford will produce either. Wee need to bolster our strength with our high pick. Then, get some interior oline so jimmy doesnt get KILLED.

Maybe we flip a deal where we can get green on the cheap after cutting pettis/thomas/breida/mck or some other dude who might be damaged good.

speaking of which glad we threw more money at do-nothings like verret and Johnson today. Hope Parrag wrote up a bag of doritos as compensation if thay are not on the roster sept 1.
