When the 49ers draft Andrew Thomas, we'll all look back and realize that it never made sense to draft a wide receiver at 13, ESPECIALLY in this class.

And Tom wants to play until he's 45. Doesn't mean we have to oblige. If you got a chance for your future left tackle you take him/ then ship Staley out at the end of the year. Sucks but that's football. Left tackle is a cornerstone position. Receiver is not especially when you already have Deebo and Kittle to throw to. Every single year someone like a Stefon Diggs, OBJ is going to be on the market. Finding a quality left tackle good luck.

We got to look at the long term picture here and that means if the right left tackle prospect is there you pull the trigger.

Pretty much how I feel. If tackle is BPA. Draft a tackle. The gap between the first tier and second tier of tackles is a lot bigger than the gap betweem the first and second tier of WRs.

100%

Do you think they'd have Thomas as BPA over Jeudy and Ruggs though? Who is BPA there? Thomas for me is due to him being a good prospect combined with the positional value of LT. Would any of you rate Thomas as BPA over Jeudy and Ruggs though.....

The Niners don't draft like that. They target their guy and if he's not there, they look to trade out.

If the giants are sober-minded, they will draft thomas.

To me this is the most obvious pick after Burrows to the Bengals. Giants are dying for a LT.

And if they can't trade out?
I'm ok with taking a tackle at #13 if one of the top ones fall to us. It would not be my ideal scenario though.
My biggest fear is they are going to panic and over draft one and pass on better talent like they did with mike Mcglinchey.

McGlinchey was a panic pick?

That's extremely unlikely at 13. There's always someone wanting to move up, especially in the teens for a QB. The Niners control their asking price. If they don't love someone there, they'll simply lower their asking price. And if nobody truly wanted to trade up even at a lower price, that would mean the league feels the talent in the draft is ass, and they made a huge f**king mistake trading Buckner away for that pick.

The Niners aren't dumb. They believe someone they love will be there at 13, or they'll flip that pick and reload their draft ammunition.

Well they gave up an elite player for #13, they need to get an elite player back. Go too far back and miss out on the 3 elite WRs, 2 elite CBs, and 3 best OL. More picks are great if in more of a rebuild mode, 49ers need plug and play guys. Windows close fast...look at the Rams.

Panic may not be the right term but they planned on trading Trent Brown so they HAD to draft a Tackle.
There where players widely regarded higher and talked about here who have actually turned out to be better.
Minka and Tremaine Edwards have turned into pro bowl players and Derwin James is right there.

And who did they pass on that was, for us, better talent?

Are any of the top 3 truly elite WR prospects? I don't think they'd be around at 13 if that was the case. The only one with elite athletic traits is Ruggs. The other two have average physical traits. All 3 are great prospects who may become elite wide receivers in the NFL, but I don't know if I would label them as elite prospects.

Megatron was an elite prospect; Julio Jones was an elite prospect. People throw around elite and generational way too loosely around here.
