Thems fightin words
Thomas is a beast. If he was available during the Harbaugh years hed fit in like a glove.
Is John Lynch punking me right now???

If Thomas is there at #13, Lynch will take him. You don't forsake a guy who could be your LT for 10+ yrs for a WR who could be gone in 3 or 4. JT would protect Jimmy's blind side and that's worth a heckuva lot more than a WR at that point in the draft.

He's athletic enough that he can fit this scheme too. It would allow for scheme versatility in that you can run pretty much anything with Thomas. You wanna go full power and gap blocking, inside zone, outside zone, whatever you want to do, he's capable of handling it.

No. I know what you're thinking but Becton's lateral movement is pretty good for a 360+ pound guy. He'd be best suited to lose another 10 to 15 pounds but he could very well work in this scheme.

OK now you're punking me. What is this world coming too. Ha.

On the real though, it just adds one more T to the other 3 I'd be happy with at 13.

That´s why I don´t want a trade up. Just take the top talent that falls whether it´s a WR or an OT.

Next yr is stocked at OT as well.

That ´s true but next year I think we don´t want to have the 13th pick right?
If a guy like Thomas is there at 13, they have to draft him. Same for Becton even if he´s raw.
I like Brunskill and I think that overall he was our best Tackle this season but can he be the LT of the future on a permanent basis I don´t know.
And there´s also the fact that you could have Thomas on a rookie contract for 4 years at least.
If a top OT falls, I could see us trading back with the Bucs and selecting a top WR while picking up a 3rd round pick. The Bucs don't need a WR so they should be willing to give up a heck of a lot for an elite tackle prospect.

Otherwise, I think we have to go with a guy like Thomas or Becton over the top WRs. Hopefully the Bucs think we're willing to draft a tackle too so they're incentivized to send us an offer.

Can Staley play guard? I can't see Becton there and it would suck having one of them sitting out the season.

Bless you.

Imagine how much this 'healthy' OL would absolutely dominate with this:

Staley - Thomas - Richburg - Tomlinson/Brunskill - McGlinchey

I'd prefer Thomas at LG for an easier transition to LT eventually. Tomlinson blows at pass protection but that's Brunskill's strength as a former T. Finally, Tomlinson has some real competition.

It ain't sexy but Benton would have a potentially dominant OL with quality, proven depth AND Kyle would finally be able to open up the receiving game (instead of having to keep in Juice, Kittle and Arby's for added pass protection help) and it fully opens up the play action (more time needed = equivalent of a 5 step drop/2.5+ seconds).

Staley already said he'd retire before moving to RT. I'm safely assuming this would apply to LG too.

I respect Matt Maiocco, but I think it's a stretch to say Lynch was specifically watching film on Becton. For all we know he could have been fast-forwarding through that possession to get back to when UK was on offense to scout that utility player Bowden, whom we've shown an interest in.

Cleveland and their analytics team probably have 2 players in their cross heirs : Becton and Simmons. Since IS likely does not make it to them, they have to be all in on MB if he is there.

And what happens if Thomas turns out to be just a guard at the next level? There's been plenty of draft talk about him just being a guard through out the draft process (I think he's a tackle). Same with all these top OTs (minus big cat) and he's pretty raw in general. Point is we can't assume that they can just go from guard to elite NFL LT play in a yr or so.

Then we dumped Buck and a top 13 pick in a RG I want to improve PP as much as anyone, but they have to be absolutely certain that they can play guard and OT at a high level to make an investment like that.

Lynch and Co need to think hard about this especially if they're gonna invest high in a OT and convert him to a guard for a couple yrs.
