Tristan Wirfs

Why doesn't this kid have his own thread yet? The star of the Combine for big men with an amazing workout plus his Iowa Hawkeye pedigree would make a great long term addition to the Niners offensive line. Wirfs could easily play RG in his first year then move outside eventually to take over for Staley, if Brunskill doesn't develop further and take over for Staley in the interim.

If other teams finally give Andrew Thomas the respect he deserves as a four year starter and top prospect, Wirfs could fall to #13 into the Niners lap.
No thread because he is likely to be long gone. You never know. If was there I'd take him. But I don't see a thread about Chase Young either.

Most of the time, a 320 pound bluechip franchise LT does not go at 13. I would be shocked if he dropped that far, if the 49ers took him over Ruggs, as much as I REALLLLY want Ruggs....i would not be crushed.

10-12 years of all pro level dominance at LT is a legit expectation with Wirfs.

The only knock on him, appears to be his technique on speed rushers, He can move as well as any Tackle, he sets up shallow to get his hands on speed rushers, and there is talk that was by design. This whole knock on him, could be akin to saying a QB is risk adverse and does not throw it deep enough, well... the QB has to run the offense as it is coached...

I still think he goes top 5, I think Becton goes earlier then 13 too, but it would be a good problem to have.
I think he's better suited to be a right tackle. Outstanding mauler in the run game, extremely physical and seems to enjoy wrecking people plus as has been mentioned, he's an athletic freak was one of Feldman's college freaks for the past couple of years. If I felt really great about McGlinchey playing the left side then I'd had have no issue with Wirfs but I think he's kind of redundant. He's a lot like Anthony Davis. Physically dominant but his pass blocking isn't nearly on the level of his run blocking.

If a team just wants a tackle period, then Wirfs is just fine. If a team is set on a true left tackle then I'd start the line at Thomas and put Wirfs behind Wills and Becton.

How do you feel about Jedrick Wills then? Similar or different?

I think he's got a lower ceiling but is a more well rounded tackle prospect. I think you can put him on the left or right side and have a solid NFL tackle.
So much for PP issues coming out of college.

Or you could just give the rookie T props.

Tom Brady didn't have to move an inch in the Superbowl. You still gotta pass protect no matter who the QB is...right Patrick Mahomes?!?

People can improve, adjust, etc. Same way Kinlaw was noted for his pass rush ability coming out of college but now suddenly he's a 2 down run defender. Shrugs.

Is this a sick joke that this thread had to be bumped up!! Still pisses me off we did not draft him.

I give him props. Was way better than I thought. But it's a one year sample so let's see if he builds on it or he goes all Trent Brown.

Wirfs played well, not doubt.

One rookie RT isn't turning a OL that got Winston sacked 47xs (5th most in the NFL) to doing what they did this yr. That's QB play and changing the scheme around. That's having a f**k ton of vet play-makers getting open. How about YOU give some damn respect to the GOAT!?

The Mahomes narrative is so lame and you know it...they were down two good starting OTs and a starting OG. Over half that OL was backups.

NO ONE. NOT. A. SINGLE. PERSON. is saying we should throw in a bunch of backups across the board at OL and play with that all yr.

What a horrible reach...
