Then you don't get Ayiuk either. That trade down gave us the trade capital to go get him.

matt maiocco said he knows for a fact that SF was gonna draft Clyde Edwards-Helaire at 31.

As much as I love Ayuik I'd rather have Wirfs.

Wirfs got drafted 13th overall, we traded with the Bucs to move down one spot. You mean Kinlaw...

according to what? His PBLK grade was worse than McG and he was surrounded by elite talent, had one QB that ran half the time and Brees who dumped the ball off just about more than anyone.

You don't get to say McG was horrible at PP and not say the same about Ruiz...he was trash in RBLK as well. He was one of the worst starting guards in football this yr.

Sure he does. It's more fun to continue a narrative that every team in the league is stacked with studs on the OL but the 9ers.

Ask Drew Brees about Ruiz pass blocking prowess.

With anyone but Brady or Brees at QB, Ruiz would have looked far worse too. Dismal rookie season where only his teammate Peat gave up more pressures.

Great 49ers gift ideas
I think if the Saints could redraft right now, they take Aiyuk without any hesitation.

Wouldn't be shocked if we take a tackle this year.

I'd rather have Ayiuk and Kin along with Trent Williams (once resigned) over Wrifs. thank you very much

People refuse to realize how poor offensive line play is overall in the NFL. I don't think there's a single SF fan that doesn't think we could improve the OL. They should always be bringing in players.

BUT you could have that TB OL and Mullen/Jimmy/CJ would still get sacked, miss reads, get hit, throw INTs etc. QB play makes everything better. It's a reason why they're paid BY FAR more money then anyone else in the NFL.

I think D line play has become so much better over the past decade that it is contributing to poor pass protection IMO. I mean the most freak athletes are being played at edge rushers at a young age now.

A lot of truth in that. It's not only the D line either. The LBs are getting faster and better at coverage which contributes to the pressure the D line can put on the QB. Then factor in the number of colleges that run option offenses where they aren't required to hold blocks for long periods and you end up with a lot of O linemen who aren't NFL ready. Having a good O line coach is more important than ever.

But OL can get away with holdings so they get some advantage there. At least if they are blocking for Rodgers, Mahomes or Brady.

Yup! It's apparently the absolute worst for the 49ers though lol

Or is it that we have the least athletic QB room in the NFL? I know what my eyes tell me

There is no way your eyes tell you that our offensive line is "the absolute worst."

The guys that go to OL are often TEs or DLs that weren't athletic enough to hack it. The superior athletes upfront are on the defensive side by a wide margin.

I think it's just natural to just see a 250+ pound athlete and just think he's gonna be the next Aaron Donald. Not many people are thinking that's the next Quentin Nelson. I mean unless Sandra Bullock notices that the kid tests in the 98th percentile in protective instincts.
