2020 draft rumors

Kyle has been a head coach for 3 yrs...you're projecting numbers with next to nothing to go off of with HIS team.

If Kittle was our Julio they wouldn't have went after OBJ, spend picks on Sanders, or go after Hooper...they clearly think there's targets to be had.

It's silly

"When we first brought scouts in right after the Super Bowl we were kind of working off the old grading system," Lynch said. "But what helped was the grading system that they use in Denver, which kind of derived from one that was developed in New England."

One of Lynch's first hires was former Broncos college scouting director Adam Peters as 49ers vice president of player personnel. New coach Kyle Shanahan was also familiar with the system because, like Peters, Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff worked in the Patriots' scouting department.

"In these last three weeks of draft meetings we moved over to that grading scale," Lynch said.

"I've always been someone who thinks you should listen to multiple opinions and we've been very collaborative. I believe in strong opinions. Someone once told me, 'Strong opinions, weakly held.' So are you open to different thoughts and someone makes you think? But ultimately someone's got to make decisions."

"I would say it varies year to year, but I would say our draft board is smaller than most," Caserio said. "We are trying to find players that we feel comfortable with on all levels that we would actually draft -- not that are going to get drafted.

"It's players that we would draft, that we would actually feel comfortable with in our program in some capacity."

I have brought this up before... The Pats tend to have 75 players on their draft board give or take a few.

But the point being made in your post with regard to us, the post is worth a bump onto the next page of this thread.

I think people forget that Kyle wasn't the head coach in Atlanta.

Obviously the coordinators will have some input as to who the team drafts but it's well below GM/owner and head coach.

This only really seems to happen with offensive coordinators. You never see people say that a head coach who was a DC say that he never drafted this position or that position with his former team.
There have been a few surprises as far as personnel in the NFL this off season, especially with the Niners. The unforeseen trade of, I feel, the heart of this team, DeFo. Allowing Sanders to leave. Acquiring the 13th pick in the draft. There hasn't been the talked about FA wanting to come to SF to win a championship. So, what is the path of the Niners in the draft? Nothing is known until the 13th pick. Are the Niners looking to "replace" DeFo? Are they looking for a #1 WR? And who might that be? An OT to keep Jimmy G upright and make the running game even nastier? A cover corner or two? And who's trading up? Or back? We definitely need more draft capital. So I say let's enjoy what is being rumored and see how close the "experts" can come to what REALLY happens
I fully believe that the 49ers intend to draft a tackle at 13. Maiocco says there's a 50% chance Staley retires. Also, you don't trade away one of your best players at a premiere position in exchange for the 13th overall pick to draft a wide receiver. That's not how good front offices operate, and this is a good one.

If true, Tampa Bay will probably try to jump us to pick the last tackle so we may need to trade up...
"It's true. Chinn is this year's discount version of Simmons, who is expected to be a top-five selection. Chinn's athleticism and upside are likely to put him in the top 25 selections."

From Matt Miller's draft rumors article. That is much higher than I expected

Who's Jimmy gonna throw the Ball too If the niners select an OL with their first pick?

Yeah, let's not hyperbolize things. First, the 49ers already have studs on the roster in Kittle and Deebo, so let's not pretend there's nobody to throw to. Second, the draft doesn't end after they select at 13. They have more picks including the 31st overall. Finally, this is a ridiculously deep WR draft. There's going to be a surplus of options for them after 13.

Anything Is possible regarding the draft. I just can't see Shanny and Lynch passing up the opportunity to draft one of the Elite receivers of this draft class. I believe that's why they didn't rush to re-sign Sanders too. Shanny probably licking his lips at the thought of drafting one of the top 3 receivers.

Agreed. It was one of their biggest weaknesses.

And the fact that they did nothing in FA for a stud O lineman or WR is a problem when it comes to the draft

Yeah, I agree - no way after not signing Sanders - do we pass on one of the receivers at #13.

I'm leaning heavily to drafting a legit WR #13, BUT if they upgrade their oline, maybe Kittle wont have to help protect Jimmy so much.
