MADDOG Big Board?

Hey, guys. Just a funky year that I am taking off. Not a permanent thing. My older son is a top tier hockey player in Ohio and I have been really working hard to prep him for his tryout on one of the two elite teams in Ohio for next year. My younger son is also a really good player and I am prepping him up as well. Teaching responsibilities have also increased dramatically, even with being out of school. Just a lot of factors.

At the same time, I am watching a little bit (not the normal 4-5 hours a day in a typical year). So, I do have some thoughts. Just haven't been on the board more than a handful of times in the year.

I will be on the live draft thread on Thursday, and spotty on Friday and Saturday.

My thoughts are the Niners need WR help. As most of you remember, I predicted Pettis would be a 4th or 5th WR on this roster, standing around on the sidelines. I didn't like the Samuel pick as much as AJ Brown, who I collected in last year's draft in the second round. But, Samuel was better than I thought. They simply need more help.

My WR board is:
1. Lamb
2. Mims
3. Pittman
4. Jeudy
5. Jefferson

The only WR I would select at 13 is Lamb. But, I would also need to see who else is on the board at that pick.

The Niners have to strongly consider a number of players at 13 and 31: They have to address LT at some point. Guys like J. Jones, A. Jackson, E. Cleveland have to be strongly considered.

I still feel the team lacks a safety for the future. At 31, they have to take a LONG look at Antoine Winfield. He reminds me a ton of Earl Thomas.

CBs are so unpredictable in the first round. Buyer beware!!! It is better to blow money in free agency at the position.

I will drop in from time to time the next couple days. Should be an interesting ride, as always.

Awesome post. Glad to hear about your kids. Completely understand your stance. Best of luck to them as they prepare for tryouts.
It's interesting that MD's top 5 WRs include two (Mims and Pittman) that should be there in the 2nd round and one (Jefferson) that may be there in the late 1st.

This draft is so deep at WR, I think the 49ers can get way more draft capital moving down from 13 than trading 31, but if they can convert those two picks into, say, a late 1st, 2 2nds, and a 3rd they can probably address WR, OL, IDL and CB quite nicely.

Fun times. Good luck, ship them off to Juniors as early as possible, junior or senior year of highschool, imho.
Good luck to your boys!

Thanks for taking the time.

Sidebar: What levels are they? I've got a bantam A (goalie) and a squirt BB (forward).

That's really cool to hear. I was in the same boat 20 years ago. Living in the south (VA) was really hard to stay in competitive hockey. I had to do a lot of traveling (which I know was stringent on my parents) and work extra hard to get noticed, so I understand the commitment. In the end I decided to stay local and go to college nearby, rather than pursue a path in hockey. Had a couple offers and I thought long and hard about it. I don't regret my decision. It has led to a nice life for myself and family. Of course you wonder where the other route would have led to as well from time to time. Either way the route I choose was rewarding for me. Steady job, nice house and neighborhood. Great family. I hope the same for your son's in whatever they choose to do.

Best of luck to you and your boys.

Like your WR Board., I wud swap Pittman and Jefferson, but otherwise I totally agree with the group ya got. As far as Winfield, shyte, he is just like his daddy. He is truly his Jr.,

Thanks. We are missing a lot in life with the shutdown of daily life, but there is much to be thankful for each day. Hoping everything will return to "normal" for everyone soon.

Appreciate the kind thoughts.

I am a true blue UCLA fan who hates USC. But, I really think people are overlooking Pittman. I don't care that many of the "gurus" have him as their number 8 or 9 WR.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Hockey in the south is crazy. Have to travel LONG distances to get to a rink for many, Just not that competitive. Hockey really growing in Columbus, and it is a nasty dogfight for limited elite slots. Trying to be top 6 defenseman in the state is a challenge, but he's got a great shot. Just takes a lot of work.
