Mission Impossible 2020 NFL Draft

Three mission impossible goals for 49ers 2020 Draft.

1. Find replacement for Ford
2. Find replacement for Staley
3. Find replacement for Sherman

Reasons:
1. Find cap space to re-sign Kittle
2. Get younger at DB and OT
3. Build depth Edge

How?:
1. Trade 13th or 31st to get add picks between 2nd-3rd round picks.
2. First 3 players be major contributors and eventually be starters.

These missions will set 49ers up for sustainable competitiveness.

I swear people didn't watch this team last year. When Ford was out our pass rush was mediocre and the D looked very average. We need D Ford people.

Dee Ford is a game changer. No doubt. But major issue, Ford was out too many times. If paying a guy about 17/yr, you have to play. If not, find someone talented, younger and cheaper. But easier said than done. It's a mission impossible.

What about finding a replacement for a guy that's actually gone, Emmanuel Sanders?

Yeah, it has to be a priority to find someone to replace Sanders.

Bring in Clay Matthews to give us the Elvis Dumerville-like backup snaps.
Draft a CB not named Henderson at #31.

Member Milestone: This is post number 300 for Bloodless.
1. We have the same edge players we had last year. It was probably the teams biggest strength. While we lost some depth during the year . We should be getting those guys back. I don't see Edge as being a big need right now at all.

2. Staley played well down the stretch last year and Could still have another 2 years left in him. I also feel good about the depth of the guys behind him. We lost both tackles for games last year and those young guys stepped up big time and played pretty well. I am not crazy about spending a high draft pick on a tackle which I don't see as immediate need.

3. I agree that we do need to start thinking about replacing an ageing Sherman. That being said If we put this off another year we would probably be fine at the position. But it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a stud opposite him this year and then having that player replace him the following year.

I see our biggest needs being in this order.
1. WR
2. interior Offensive line.
3. CB
4.DT

I can see the temptation of wanting to trade down with one of our first rounders in order to get an extra pick for another player. But I think we got to be careful we are not giving up on a high quality player to do so. I feel good about the teams depth. We need to try and land top tier players. I am not greedy , I would be extremely happy if we could land 2 quality starters in this years draft. I think if we do that we will have a great chance to come away as Super Bowl Champions.

Staley is much closer to needing a replacement than Sherman. Uncle Sherm likely resigns at CB or takes Tartt's spot in a year or 2.

There's no one to replace Ford in this draft where we are picking. This edge class is poop.

Until joe says he's retiring you assume he's playing...he's not gonna leave this team high and dry.

CB needs to be looked at, I assume they will upgrade via the draft and FA (in 2021).

They have cap space to resign Kittle. That's not a problem.

Dee Ford is great when healthy but the only thing I'm affraid of with him is how much time he will miss because of his knee issues. I hope he can stay healthy this coming season but it wouldn't hurt to add some depth at edge rush.
A lot of good insight here on the draft, thanks.

Why are we finding a replacement for Ford?

Decent chance he'll be cut after 2020 with minimal dead cap implications. No sense paying a 30 year old injury prone edge rusher $17 million/year. That changes if he makes it through this year healthy but it's a consideration.

Now I'm even more confused. Did you see how the defense performed without him on the field? Why on earth will we be cutting Ford? Just who'e gonna replace him?

No one is gonna replace him from this draft. If he has another yr where he only plays like 20% of the snaps he's gonna have to go (or have a massive restructure).
