Isaiah Simmons Linebacker Clemson

He might be a better version of Derwin James.

Haven't watched a lot of Simmons, does he have that natural instinct James has or is he just an uber athlete?
No safet has ever weighed 238 lbs in the nfl. Ever. There is no way simmons plays 8 snaps a game at safety and 8 at slot corner. He will start to get beat around week 3.

So:

Can he stuff run?
Can he rush the edge with his hand in the dirt?
Can he spy?
Can he blitz between tackles?

If he gets a b or higher in all these categories he is 1st rounder.

But we have so many other holes, we cant splurge on him.

FWIW :

Kam Chancellor came in at 230.

And Adalius Thomas who was 270 and was primarily an edge rusher was used at multiple spots in Baltimore.

"When I went to Baltimore they had a lot of older guys there and they had a phrase of, 'The more you can do, the longer you stay around.' It kind of stuck," said Thomas.

So, Thomas decided to do it all, earning the nicknames "Slash" and "The Coordinator," for his ability to play multiple positions in Baltimore's defense. It's almost easier to name a position Thomas, who made his first Pro Bowl on special teams in 2003, hasn't played. He's lined up as a defensive end, a 3-4 nose tackle, a 4-3 defensive tackle, a 3-4 outside linebacker, a 3-4 inside linebacker, a 4-3 outside linebacker, a safety, and even at cornerback, all thanks to his startling athleticism.
The way defenses scheme he will fit in. He can cover any TE out there. He can rush. He's a Swiss Army knife and too talented to not use.

Love this kid!!

I'd say Simmons is a great fit in Tartts role in this defense
Another weapon to keep all those scrambling QBs we gotta play in check
I think Simmons and Tua are my two least favorite prospects relative to projected draft position. I would not draft SImmons at #13.

The more I watch him, he's a finesse DB-like player in a LB"s body. I now think of him more as a S than LB. But unlike someone like Derwin James, he doesn't make those monster big hits and he lacks any of that instinctiveness. Total stay away for me.

He does seem built in a lab to erase TEs though. And man can he move sideline to sideline. So tantalizing, it's like a total deathtrap.

That's where I'd plug him in if the 49ers drafted him. He'd be a strong safety in this scheme.

John Middlekauff said there's a chance he's available at 13. He said the NFL isn't as high on Simmons as the media is.

It's funny that I've been playing devil's advocate with Simmons because this is the type of player I salivate over. I guess it reflects my lack of faith in Saleh more than Simmons(not that I hate Saleh).

Maybe Simmons falls to 8-10, if that's the case make a move and go after him.

I mean.. Its really not that difficult. But NFL is pretty conservative when it comes to change.

Sounds like he fits one of those "amoeba" front/defense. Probably be a best fit for a 3-4 team that uses multiple fronts and sees him as a LB. 49ers are pretty rigid in their wide9 that doesn't blitz a lot.
