Short dream,...but was nice while it lasted.
No doubt about it teams are prioritizing defenders early and (I think we're about to see) protecting their franchise. Overall,...the skill position guessing games can kinda wait.

I've yet to see evidence of his ability to decipher a scheme with as much movement as ours, or his ability to get off of blocks, including kittles

I'm just saying physically, having someone that big and fast with slot coverage skills, is the beat possible match up for him if you had to match someone up on him in man coverage. I hope he burns the hell out of him like he did to Landon Collins

Well hopefully we don't need Kittle to beat Arizona. If Simmons covers Kittles or Deebo, we just go to where he isn't.

Our own ST comes to mind.
Edit: Not saying this about Simmons, just what comes to mind when I hear these labels at draft time
I don't think fans understand how difficult it is to truly maximize a player like this. Their potential is limited by a DC's intelligence and creativity. Kyle Van Noy is the perfect example. Detroit had no idea how to use him, fans called him a bust, and they shipped him out for seven-round pick. He gets to the Patriots, and Belichick turns him into one of the deadliest defensive weapons in the league by using him everywhere. Van Noy literally did everything for the Pats. A player like Simmons needs a DC that is maleable with their scheme and extremely creative with play calls.
Simmons would never live up to his potential in the 49ers' scheme. Their defense is too structured. They don't ask for much from their guys and keep the assignments simple for a reason.
well, well, well. Not surprised to hear that AZ has zero clue how to maximize Simmons.
Through 3 games this season, #Cardinals 8th overall pick, Isaiah Simmons, has been targeted 4 times in the passing game.

He has allowed 4 catches for 94 yards and 2 TDs on those four targets. pic.twitter.com/XWKJoiDkzl
Isaiah Simmons played 10 snaps in yesterday's Cardinals loss to the Panthers.

He's now played on 45 snaps through four games of the 2020 NFL season.
Also I was critiquing Keim a month ago saying that he needed to add veteran depth at safety, lol. Even I didn't think that it would turn out this bad but if they counted on Simmons you either blame Keim for the pick or Vance for not knowing how to use him...Keim kept him.

Becoming very clear that Arizona having Isaiah Simmons over CeeDee Lamb on their board and discounting what their QB was saying about him maaaay have been a mistake

Isaiah Simmons dressed in all 4 games yet played only 19.4% of special teams snaps. By comparison, other LBs Kylie Fitts, Dennis Gardeck, Zeke Turner & Tanner Vallejo have ALL played over 62% of STs snaps.

Simmons can't beat out guys you've never heard of for special teams reps.
Whoever claimed Simmons would beat out Dre Greenlaw couldn't be more wrong. Dude is terrible as a pure LB. Simmons would be 4th string on our team.
There's only 1 guy in the league that knows how to use someone like Simmons from the jump.

Yeah, we should be 4-0 but this is how it is..any given Sunday. Get (most) of our team back and we are marching to the playoffs.

The more I watch him, he's a finesse DB-like player in a LB"s body. I now think of him more as a S than LB. But unlike someone like Derwin James, he doesn't make those monster big hits and he lacks any of that instinctiveness. Total stay away for me.
He does seem built in a lab to erase TEs though. And man can he move sideline to sideline. So tantalizing, it's like a total deathtrap.
Man, you were so right.

Yeah, he doesn't have that instinctive, decisive nature that you look for a linebacker or safety. He's Brandon Browner or a poor mans Kam Chancellor, for better or worse.

Can't better from the sideline. He's played 45 snaps in 4 games. Cards have no idea how to use him, which is exactly what a bunch of us predicted.
I wouldn't throw in the towel on him. It's way too early. But I think his success hinges more on his coordinator figuring out how to use him moreso than him simply "getting better." He was never going to be just a LB.
