and paid him 20 million which is why we couldn't keep Sanders/Buckner.

So let's see here,
Kinlaw for Buckner at 20million dollar savings
Aiyuk for sanders 10years younger and 10mill less a year(exact #?)
Williams for Staley 4 years younger and not retiring
AN o lineman that provides for additional depth along a thin group
And a 6th and seventh rounder that probably won't make opening roster
Yes I would say they improved

you think Aiyuk will play better the Sander ?
And they could have keep Buckner for one more year without paying him.
I know the cap is much better now that they have made these move, but I do not think the team is going to be a better team next year. In 2 or 3 years maybe.

Buckner wanted Aaron Donald money (Clowney did too -- notice nobody has given it to him). Can't keep everyone and it I think Kinlaw will replace his production eventually.
Williams is an upgrade over last year's Staley. Did you read Joe's letter. He has a degenerative neck condition and he did not want to risk not being there for his kids if he played one more year. It is his right and, dare I say it duty, to retire for his family. He gave his body for this franchise for 13 years and in 5 years should be putting on a gold jacket
Trading Breida helped the team -- we got a 5th for an UDFA. We have Mostert, Coleman, Jet, and Wilson still. Plus, Kyle might find another gem UDFA as there are a few out there
The last 3 guys drafted are perfect for this team. A nasty college tackle that will be used as a developmental guard, our IOL was a weakness. A blocking TE to replace Tiololo (who had the right to sign elsewhere as a FA) who might surprise as a receiver, and a guy in Jennings that fits exactly what Kyle has had (Garcon, Sanu) and has wanted (Hurd). Jennings might wind up being the steal of the draft based on his production. It sounds like Hurd's back is way worse than has been let out. Hurd and Jennings were teammates at Tenn so no doubt Jennings' film (have you seen this guy block?) popped out when they were scouting Hurd last year

I highly doubt it. Silly to judge a team before they actually play the season out. We won't know if they're better or worse until They play this season.

But your only discussing one point, and that point being is the player they gained better than the player they replaced.Originally posted by dlance:Originally posted by Cutitoff:So let's see here,

Saving 40 Million has nothing to do with if the 49er are a better or worst team. I have a very hard time think a Rookie in Kinlaw for Buckner at 20million dollar savings is going to make the team play better. Kinlaw next year should not be a better player then Buckner!!! In 2 or 3 years maybe he will be.
Aiyuk saving 10 million doesn't make him better the Sander. In 2 or 3 yr maybe he will be.

I'm only saying I do not think the team is as good right now as they where last year.
So if they do not make the SB I guess I'm right.
If the win the SB I'm wrong.

You can't pay a D-Lineman 20 plus million a year and keep the rest of your team together.
They made an offer to Buckner and he wouldn't take it.
They made an offer to sanders and he didn't take it.
Staley retired due to degenerative issue in his neck.
Every single team in the league changes every year and tries to balance talent with salary cap. The niners have retained a huge part of their team from last year. Personally I would rather have Kinlaw on the line and be able to extend Kittle than keep Buck and watch Kittle go elsewhere.
The FO is making decisions to keep the team relevant for an extended period of time vs the Rams approach.

they chose to sign Kwon Alexander and Dee Ford to big deals and now they can't pay Buckner.
I agree with you point.
I'm only saying I do not feel the team is better today then they where last year.
After last years draft I felt the pass rush would be better. WR would be better. Punter ok???? and they drafted a late LB,OL,DB. I felt the team was better in some areas.
This year I don't. DL is not better. DB not better. Is the OL any better, maybe another year for the young guy and William is better maybe and maybe not he didn't play last year we need to wait and see.
Right now I just don't see where they have gotten better anywhere.

They lost Buckner, Staley and Sanders.
They added Kinlaw, Aiyuk, Trent Williams plus a hopefully healthy Hurd and will have players coming back with more experience as well as Jimmy G a year further removed from his ACL tear. I don't know if they got a lot better, they don't appear to have gotten worse which means they should be back in the mix to make another SB run.
