From Ruggs To Riches: Kinlaw and Aiyuk

I was really convinced that Ruggs was going to land on the 49ers draft card. Then, bam! Raiders got Ruggs. Damn it!

Niners philosophy is to draft players that fit the scheme. For this draft the WRs that fit are Ruggs, Mims, Shenault, Aiyuk and Reagor. Once Ruggs was gone, they got the next best thing.

For defense, was surprised to see Kinlaw was still there and I was surprised 49ers picked him. That's why I'm just a fan. Lol. Overall, I like the picks. Defense got stronger and got WR talent.

Javon Kinlaw, DT- 49ers strength got stabilized with this athletic beast. Rank #2 DT in this draft. Several analysts in favor of 49ers Kinlaw pick.

Brandon Aiyuk, WR- Deebo 2.0. Very versatile and athletic player with speed. Could do many things Deebo can. Imagine double reversed Aiyuk and Deebo...wow!

What do you think?

I could be wrong but I don't think Ruggs was going to be the pick there over Kinlaw even if he was there. I think they ultimately liked the value more of taking A WR with there second pick then with there first pick.

Even before we took him. When I watched Aiyuk Highlight reel i thought to myself he looked like a Receiver that Kyle would Covet. We clearly did as we moved up to get him. I think The Niners got two players they were really high on. Time will tell if they are right. I Personally like Aiyuk a lot. While there are some similarities to deebo. I think Aiyuk is faster and a better route runner. While Deebo is the more Physical of the two. Kinlaw I think has some Boom or Bust potential. Hopefully we got the Boom. I do think we have a good Dl coach and players to teach him some pass rush moves to add to his bull rush.

Like it the analysis. All about schemes. I like Aiyuk, but Ruggs is such a fast toy. But really, Niners not known to get WR or RB that high.
I didn't like Ruggs that much. I thought he was Alabama's third best receiver and was rarely pressed in coverage. He's fast, sure, but Aiyuk is a better football player. And I would have said this before the draft.
Sounds like Aiyuk is the guy Kyle wanted regardless.

These two are the guys they wanted, and they got both when they thought only one was possible.

Good day.

I think if we had drafted Kinlaw without Bosa and Armstead, he would've felt more pressure to be the man like Armstead and Solomon Thomas before Bosa and Ford came over. Kinlaw would've played well but have little effect on the game because there were problems everywhere. Coming to one of the top defensive lines in the NFL, he'll get expert coaching and won't be double-teamed. He'll be put in a much better situation to succeed.
Was not sold on the Bama wr's at all. I disagree I don't think Ruggs or Jeudy were ever on their board. I was shocked they traded up for the ASU wr as I felt he would've been there at 31.

Yeah, Aiyuk was they're guy. I was surprised they traded up for him, but understood if they were getting nervous, that some team would take him.

What's crazy is that he was one of the 6 "foundational" players. He was third on their list at pick 13. They really like Aiyuk.
Aiyuk was one of "the 6"...they were never taking Ruggs

There's a lot to like about him. He was a HUGE reason for Daniels throwing for 3k as a true freshman. As someone pointed out earlier, ASU has an awful OL but they have playmakers at the skills positions.
We definitely improved the roster with great talent in round 1. Just wish we stayed put at 31.

I agree. But not sure what the interest were from teams before 31st.
