The total value of the picks up we gave up : 681 points.
The value of the 25th pick : 720 points.
------
By comparison, the Packers gave up 658 points to move up 4 spots for a pick worth 700 points.
In 2017 Atlanta traded 31,95 and 249 for 26.
------
In no way did we give up too much to move up, we paid less than chart value.
I meant it more in context of still having a 4th and 5th round pick, I did the draft value math right way so knew it was technically equal.

Kinlaw is a really good player. He is very talented. I had him 22nd overall on my board. He has some injury issues in the past that need to be monitored. He has a great backstory of overcoming tough odds. These are all positive aspects to the player and pick.
However, when you have the best player on the board at the most important position of need, you pull the trigger. You don't play cute. The Niners need a wideout who you line up against their best CB and beats that player. No gimmick, no trickery. Just flat out wins. That is Ceedee Lamb. This is a lost opportunity.
You have to respect the Cowboys. They didn't need another star wide receiver. They needed defensive help. But, there was no way they were passing on Lamb when he dropped to them. Talent wins over everything else. The Niners had the opportunity to match talent and need, and flopped.
As for Aiyuk, he is a nice WR. A good WR. However, there were better wide receivers on the board (Mims, Pittman), and the team didn't need to sacrifice three picks to pick up a player at his talent level. We really could have used those extra mid-round picks.
As for me, I picked Lamb and Josh Jones, who will be a starting LT in the NFL. Would have been equally thrilled with Lamb and Winfield. The key player is Lamb. We were too cute, and therefore a lost opportunity.
C-
I can maybe understand not taking Lamb at 14 if you think Aiyuk gives you a similar value and you love Kinlaw. But when Shanny said they seriously contemplated taking Aiyuk at 13 over Lamb I was so puzzled. Why is every other team in the draft rating Lamb in a different tier of receivers except Shanahan? What does that say about how we value WR's? It is just so mind-blowing to me.
Time will tell. Fact is Kyle runs our offense and knows what he wants out of it. He did say he liked Lamb. You could take his comments as truth that Aiyuk was our top WR with Lamb behind him or maybe he's saying that because we got Aiyuk and Lamb was actually our top guy but he was gone by the time we traded up.
End of the day we may have had Lamb/Aiyuk close enough and simply felt getting a talent like Kinlaw to make the DL a strength again made more sense than taking the top WR.
Obviously if they weren't BSing about Aiyuk being the top guy then it's a home run. Time will tell whether the evaluation is wrong or accurate. Wouldn't be the first time a prospect or two that everyone was hot and heavy about ended up performing worse than guys drafted after them.
And as mentioned Lamb going at 17 and being the 3rd WR taken means other teams didn't see a guy who just flat out wins.

The same guys who moved up for Dante Pettis. All you really need to know about how Niners rate recievers. They suck at it.
And drafted Deebo Samuel just last year.
Pettis' issue also has nothing to do with his talent so you can stop your ridiculous point right there. If anything realizing the limitations from Dante they're learning from it with Deebo, Hurd, Aiyuk all being very different mind frame guys to Dante. If Dante actually gets the go get it mentality and stops the it is what it is...he'll end up being an excellent WR because he has no problems getting separation.

- NFL Pick 'em
Hours ago i would have said abut B- to C+ . They got the guys they needed to:
Fill the huge hole left by. Buck's leaving.
Fill the hole left by Sanders leaving.
Then i started on film learning. One word. WOW! For both guys. Kinlaw is just an amazing talent, quick , fast , and i sure don't know where he doesn't finish comes from. Baldinger showed a clip of him trying to chase down a WR 40 yds downfield...that isn't "not finishing" The low # of sacks and hurries... hey the guy routinely was doubled, and sometimes got trips. That'll keep your sacks and hurries down. Looking at film for over an hour i love this guy. Love the enthusiasm. Love the brute strength. JL/KS didn't just fill a hole in mid DL. They filled it with a 4+ STUD. A+.
Aiyuk...saw him play part of a game or two , knew nothing about him. Didn't like giving up the picks we had just gotten back so was a bit biased. Then the film. Holy schid, what a sensational player. Oh, ran a 4.5. 40. Yeah, just like Jerry Rice's 40. Nothing special...right up until he gets the ball in his hands and just like Jerry, nobody can catch him. Same on punt returns.
But the real deal is this kid is ALL arms. 81 " wingspan is just under 1 1/2 ft less per side than a California condor, with a 10 ft wingspan. And his vertical was 40" with 9 1/2 hands. And watching film you can see him take balls away from defenders, fake DBs out of their shorts, put moves on guys who had him dead to rights, and has a knack to get open over the middle, over the top, heck...anywhere. Man, you put him out there with Deebo, Bourne, au Jus, Brieda, Kittle, Dwelley(who starts this yr), and then throw in Hurd, TT, and Jet...man that is something that is spectacular. I can't believe i didn't see this kid play sooner. Jeez he is fantastic.
Here's the last thing. Kyle moved up 5 slots to take him. JL says he and Kinlaw were foundational players, meaning guys like Bosa, kittle, JG, Arik, warner, Joe, McG, Deebo..guys you can build a team around. And did they ever hit it out of the park wiht Aiyuk and Kinlaw.
Grade before film study...C
After film study....A+
Overall A+
Suggestion for those that didn't like our draft: Go spend a couple hours watching all the film you can find on each of them , and if you aren't taken by both guys i will be amazed. Film doesn't lie. And those two picks are right at the top. Sure i would have liked OT (for OG) . None of us know, but KS.and JL do, how Brunskill is coming along. It must be well, and same for Richburg. Still i bet we nail down some potential talent at OG and C. Same for CB...almost surely we will see picks and UDFAs brot in for OL and CB.
Also keep in mind JL makes a living off of rd 5 picks...kittle, TT, DJJones (in 6-7), so it ain't over til it's over. Also JL brot Sanders here midseason, and JG here midseason. So like it or not, draft/UDFA/ trades are a long way from being over. Only after that and say 8-10 games into season will the doubters be able to say "i'm Sorry i questioned the picks" or "see, i told you so".
For now, none of those statements can be made. UDFA has also been a good venue for JL. But based on film study...he and kyle just had a spectacular draft, and its only day 1.

From the FO's point of view.... a very good draft
From a fan base point of view.... not what they wanted or anticipated
As some have said only time will tell

My biggest issue with the draft is that we have not addressed OL and CB. I don't consider picks 210 and 217 worth much, so that leaves us with pick 156 in the 5th round. Barring any trades, we will leave the draft without upgrading at OL and CB, and these were the two glaring weaknesses, particularly from the SB loss.

Corner isn't a glaring weakness at all. KC runs by Everyone. Key is to get to Mahomes better than they did at the end.
Not disappointed those positions weren't addressed in first. It's more disappointing that they don't have picks to address anywhere else with. The bigger issue is not using the picks to max advantage, not who they picked IMO.

I may be the outlier here, 😀 but I thought the draft was successful because we pass on a player who was a little over hyped to me. I have definitely probably talked too much trash on CeeDee leading up to the draft, and I've readjusted to the hype to say I just didn't think he was a game changer for our scheme and football team. He would add and maybe give Jimmy another decent target, but our D-Line would not be DOMINANT.
I loved Buckner as well, but I really think Kinlaw is coming in and can be a foundational piece. We went to this Super Bowl last year because our D-Line was dominant. I realize everyone wants to balance out everything, but in the end, you can change the dynamic of what made you successful.
B+. Needed draft picks though!

A- for me.
I think Kinlaw was a fantastic value, and While i don't love Aiyuk, I think its more that we don't know what he could have done with a real QB on a real team. I think that is were he suffers compared to other WRs.
I would have liked Pittman at 31, but thats knowing he will prob end up a rezone threat
I would have liked Mims, but that is knowing he can end drives with PI and might not adjust to the NFL game
I would like Aiyuk, but we didn't see a lot of rout versatility and he has strong rout product bias
He has what I think is the weakest flaw of the grade B WRs( it might not even be a flaw...we know his system had issues)....and yet....we cant forget his QB would not start on MANY college teams.
I do love the combo of Deebo, Aiyuk and Hurd matched with Kittle. The 49ers are going to be a*****es with pre-snap motion.....
To get an A+
I would have taken Wirfs and let Sully burn a year a DT...then hoped for Mims at 31. Even typing that i realize its really splitting hairs. Aiyuk is likely the better WR prospect, and Kinlaw is a very legit draft choice, but I do think Wirfs is a franchise left tackle.
We very well might trade ST today and put this whole thing to bed.

Few of us really have enough knowledge to really be able to assess these players, but we can make some conclusions on what went down this offseason.
The 49ers have a lot of good players and so you are not going to be able to keep everybody. That means free agency "losses". What the 49ers have done is take a big risk on Armstead (over Buckner) based off of one year of production. I hope it works but it was a risk to do that and give him 85m. Then they drafted Kinlaw who is a guy with Derrick Brown level talent on the DL but also a guy who was less consistent on the field and an injury risk. Could be a big win for the 49ers if it works. Aiyuk seems like a good talent, but he seems like a lesser Emmanuel Sanders. Maybe that's a good thing, who knows. We still have Kalen Hurts and Bourne as big bodies, and Pettis and Taylor as little quick guys.
I still hold out hope that Pettis gets his head on straight because, in many ways, the Aiyuk selection feels like a do over on Pettis. Dante has talent and has demonstrated it on the field, he's just lazy.
If it were me, I would have taken Lamb and Winfield.

These two first round picks were used to replace E.Sanders and D.Buckner two better players today who we already had available to us. On the Sanders side it's cost us 3 early mid round draft picks to replace him with an unproven rookie.
It's ok to be hopeful for these picks but we can't expect either of them to produce like the players they are attempting to replace next season.
