I mean if Ryan demands a trade if the Falcons pick Lance, maybe we should get Ryan and punt on QB for a year?

But really, if Lance goes at four, I doubt Jones or Fields makes it to 12. The 49ers would be stuck with Kyle Trask, because Mond will be taken before our round two pick.

OR David Mills...🤔

Or 4% chance of any QB taken after first round becoming a franchise QB. There have been 4 since 2011: Wilson, Prescott, Cousins, and Derek Carr (barely). 96 QBs selected after R1 since 2011, 4 franchise QBs. Nice odds. Fools gold.

True. But your odds of getting a franchise QB if you don't draft one are slightly lower, at 0.0%.

And it can be argued that Carr and Cousins (like you said) might not qualify

Right. Kind of a reach with those two but they haven't been replaced (yet). Then it's 2%.

Still higher than 0%.

Not high enough to risk and 3rd or 4th. Our 5th comp or 6th round pick...OK . Love the optimism though. Someone always wins the lottery too.

While I'd normally say this conversation doesn't belong in the Lance thread I do think it's valid (btw I think Carr & Cousins do just about count). Carr and Cousins are QB's you can win a Superbowl with, but they need everything around them to be great.

For me you should aim for guys that can drag your team that is pretty good, and give you a chance. Wilson and Rodgers have done that for years, and though they haven't won multiple trophies, they've kept their teams relevant.

I think this is the year to swing for that. Jimmy at his best is at this Carr, Cousins borderline franchise QB, we can keep trying to get everything perfect around him (we came close) or look for an upgrade.

I don't think we'll get a better chance, so I think we should take a swing.

For me Lance has the right mix of value and potential, but I wouldn't be upset if we traded up.

I think Mac Jones may end up as another guy in this range which is what puts me off.
getting everything setup in free agency so SF can take a swing at a QB

Or roll with the one we have?! I think we need to add another CB, but yeah this is what you're supposed to do.

Plug your big holes so you can focus on adding talent in the draft.

I think they will roll with Jimmy as the starter BUT they're setting themselves up to go up and get the QB they want.

They've investing cash into guys (warner will get paid) they can't have all of them on these big deals....rookie QB contract makes this all possible for the long-term.

If they're in "win now" mode, don't be surprised if they take a stud at 12 and a tier 2 QB late in the first with a trade up or in the 2nd.

Would not be surprised at a Mond selection. Or that Mills guy. Or Trask.
I mean, we're talking about developing a guy. I don't think the "potential" drop between Lance and a guy with physical gifts like Mond is all that great.

Which is why skipping a QB at 12 would not surprise me.

Totally disagree there. This is the perfect time for them to invest highly into the QB position.

Getting a tier 2/3 QB does nothing for them and is a waste of draft capital.

I've been thinking about this, I like Mond's arm strength, release and accuracy. I wouldn't hate it, but Mond is a Senior, he's further along in his development. I think Lance's ceiling is much higher.

Though I do take the point that we could get a much better player at 12 as opposed to when Mond would go.

For me I would have to have a player heavily graded over the QB, at the moment I think that's only Pitts for me.
