You draft a guy like Lance with the plan of him sitting for a year behind a veteran QB and then shaping your offense around him, giving him constant opportunities to run with the football and then take some shots down the field off of playaction and letting him develop as a passer. He's not plug and play by any stretch of the imagination but you're not drafting him for that upcoming season, you're drafting him for what he can be 2 years down the road.
I feel like if NDSU was playing games right now, he'd be getting a whole lot more hype and hopefully showing some degree of improvement from last season.
Meh. I value your opinion but I just don't see it. I'll give you the athleticism aspect. However, I just don't see very many wow "throws." The majority of his throws are scripted and well designed reads with a lot of separation (not necessarily a bad thing, just noting). Go watch Jordan Love's tape from last year. He made "wow throws" almost every drive. He threw on the run and off his back foot with ease. He threw balls to receivers that were well covered and "threw them open." I don't think it is even close in regards to the level of each's pro potential. Lance reminds me of a poor man's Dak Prescott. And I don't mean that as a compliment. He just reeks of a guy who will never reach the high ceiling people put on him.
No matter how you look at the Jimmy G situation, we can't afford to take a raw QB that needs to sit for a year.
1. If we keep Jimmy G, drafting a QB (let alone a raw one) would be senseless. Under this scenario (with a starting QB on the roster) the team would be better served to fill a need at CB,OL,S or EDGE with a first rounder. Warts and all, we did get the the Super Bowl with Jimmy at the helm.
2. If we cut/trade Jimmy G, we will need a QB to come in and play right away. Sure the front office could draft a "project" QB like Lance and sign a veteran to bridge the gap. However, that would make zero sense with the way the roster is constructed. This team is built to win now. The only QB's that could legitimately come in and play from the get go are Lawrence and Fields. Maybe Wilson.
You know what offense has a lot of scripted throws??... ours. Actually the majority of the nfl offenses has scripted plays and throws. Ndsu runs a pro style offense.
Yeah love makes sexy throws but he is raw, makes some f**king bad decisions and is wildly inconsistent with his accuracy while Lance is mobile, smart, accurate, and had a good ass arm. He is capable of making "wow" throws but the offense he runs doesn't rely on that.
Lol even though Lance is raw, kid would be an upgrade from Jimmy immediately imo. We have a strong run game and Lance already runs the playaction from under center as good or better than anyone in the draft. His threat of running it if the read is not there and ability/willingness to throw it deep already makes our offense much more dangerous than it ever was/will be with Jimmy running the playaction. Lance would fit this offense like a glove in my opinion
