or this all go seam concept from under center out of 22 personnel that Shanahan dialed up multiple times last season
This is definitely nothing that Shanahan does right here. Nope, never.
I think there's a very strong argument to be made that Trey Lance does more stuff that translates to Kyle Shanahan's offense than anyone in the draft lol.
Ok, you got me on my exaggeration and were able to pull out some plays similar to what Shanahan does. That having been said. When you watch the complete game tape he runs first. Loves to throw the long ball hits on some over throws as well. The game that I saw where he showed the best capability to play in Shanahan's offense was vs Butler, but that game was such a mismatch it's hard to really judge.
I ask you this when you watch his game tape do you see a guy that you would trade up to the 3rd pick in the draft because he fits what the 49ers do?

When you watch prospects you have to think about what system they're in and what the situation is, you can't knock a prospect for designed runs, they aren't calling the plays.
Lance is a 19 year old RS Freshman there putting a team on his back.
I've said this many times but you have to look at it like a HS kid being drafted to the NBA, you're scouting traits, and finding out about their character, Lance is off the charts in both areas by all accounts.
That's true that he has great traits that could be developed. I don't think you move up to the 3rd pick to try and develop them.

I would love to see this guy in Greg Roman's offense.

Right now Lance is more of a running QB that can pass rather than a passing QB who can run. He could very well turn into that... but spending #3 on pure potential with limited data to base success within Shanahan's offense on is crazy. Save that for pick 15 or later... which could very well happen with Lance (falling to the 2nd half of the 1st round) despite all the hype he is getting right now.
IMO he reminds me of a bigger but less polished Jake Locker.
Gone are the days when that "running QB" thing was some kind of slur word. Either you can expand your playbook and the coach trusts you with it, or he doesn't. Being able to put a team on your back and run the ball isin't something you're to be scared of anymore when evaluating QBs. It's actually okay to be uber-athletic. Perhaps you are personally scared of it, sure. But the game's passing you by you can't look around the league and let go of that old fashioned train of thought.

Why not. Josh Allen went 7th.

No one's scared of taking an Athletic QB... dont know where you are getting that from. And to my knowledge no QB who loves to run has won a superbowl yet so doesnt seem like anything has passed the pocket passers by. Russell Wilson is the closest thing yet and he still looks to pass before actually breaking the line of scrimmage.
Running QBs were supposed to be all the rage with Kaep, RG3 and Wilson... then what happened? The two that kept running rather than transitioning to pocket passers are now has beens. Wilson elevated his game as a passer so he didnt have to run as much anymore. So this whole concept that a new wave of QBs who can run like Lamar or Kyler will fade just as fast if they dont transition more into pocket passers too. A QB that can run like a RB but cant place a ball a foot infront of his receiver so he doesnt break stride is worth jack sh*t. Even at his pro day Lance wasnt doing that on a consistent basis while Lawrence, Wilson and Jones were all showing the ability to do that consistently.
There will be outliers like Baltimore but fundamentally NFL offenses will never want QB runs to be a huge part of their playbook. It's incredibly stupid to take the highest paid position and expose him to consistent injury risk. The shanahans even called RG3's short career because he refused to transition to a pocket passer. Why would anything have changed?
I like Lance... just not at 3. You cant that big of a risk at 3, at 12 or further back, sure. At 3 you need a QB with a consistent track record already, not the biggest question mark in the draft.

They have to keep Garoppolo if they plan to take Lance. He's going to get killed. Going from playing FCS football (for one season) in 2019, sitting out 2020 to taking a week 1 NFL snap...whoo boy.

I don't get this logic.
If Shanahan thinks there are 3 standout QBs for him (Lawrence, Wilson and Player X) then go get player x.
It's a QB league. You go get your guy. Simple.
By your logic you'd take Darnold over Josh Allen at 3 if both were available.

Lol I've said it in other threads that Im fine with whoever Shanny picks, cause he knows what he wants for his system and I like the trade even for Lance, Jones whomever because GM/coaches should always get their guy and waiting for a player expecting them to fall is foolish.
But this is just an opinion about Lance, if Kyle choses him Im all in and hope to maximize his potential. But again just one armchair GMs opinion on the internet... Lance at #3 doesnt make any sense because he is so raw and risky. Not gonna b*tch and moan if they do take Lance cause Kyle knows more than anyone on this site.

Lance has one thing going for him: he seems to be emotionally strong. So if he's thrown to the wolves and gets eaten alive, I don't think he'll lose confidence.
I definitely could see Shanahan taking Lance. Yes, Jones fits most of the system more (don't even go on about bootlegs. Jimmy is very good at those and is a LIABILITY despite that), but theoretically Shanahan could MOLD Lance into what he wants in the next year or two.
The major question is if he can develop top level processing.

everyone who watched him has been saying this forever.
His pro day was littered with passing concepts that shanahan runs, DJ stated it right at the beginning of the work out....Quincy Avery said they setup the workout like that because the teams they knew had strong interest in Lance run those types of passing concepts.
Everyone immediately said ATL at 4, not knowing that SF was gonna move up to 3 in a week. Wouldn't be shocked if Lance/Avery/his agent had an idea that SF was trying to move up (reportedly been trying to for weeks).
