Trey Lance QB NDSU

I hope Watson hasn't been too hands on in massaging out the rough spots in Lance's mechanics

This guy looks like an elite talent....and he's only 20 years old.

For the naysayers, what am I missing? He jumps off the screen when I watch him.

I feel like Trey Lance is the type of talent where everyone will act like he was the "obvious" pick once he starts balling out in the NFL...but none of the "experts" want to go out on a limb right now saying how good he looks.

My biggest problems with drafting Trey Lance is.

1) College experience. I honestly think you need at least 3 yrs in the qb position to be better in the NFL. Dwayne Haskins and Sam Darnold had two yrs. They lost some valuable growth and experience. Lance has 1. Lance should have stayed in college.

2) Not to knock NDSU, but what kind of defenses has he faced from other teams on their schedule.

I got two major ones:

(1) He hesitates to throw from the pocket if someone is in the line of sight between him and the target, playing as if he's 5'10 instead of 6'4.

(2) He isn't all that adept — or hasn't shown aptitude — in processing quickly or other high level mental things (he's done progressions, but not much and nothing very complicated on a regular basis). Mental quick twitch has not really been shown.

But he has some real talent. If you draft Lance, you're making a projection. You're assuming he will maximize his physical potential. The problem with that is that while he has very high potential, there is a large gulf between what he is and what he could be — the largest such gulf of all the top 5 QBs.

So he is a risk. But if we took him, he could conceivably ride pine for two entire seasons if that's what it takes, since Jimmy has two years on his contract.

So yeah, IF Shanahan wants him, and IF Lance is truly coachable, and IF Shanahan is able to develop him for a year or two before turning him lose, he could potentially be a real terror.

I don't agree with Jeremiah on his thinking that because of the timing of Lance pro day they made the move....They have been trying to trade up for weeks prior to the pro days.
