This could mean nothing, but for weeks Ben Allbright on twitter has been saying the Falcons at 4 love Lance and view him as the potential successor to Matt Ryan. I still don't think Atlanta will take a QB, but the threat of them doing so, it made sense that SF had to go to 3 to ensure nobody jumps them, which tells me they have A guy they really like (out of Wilson, Fields, Lance, and Jones).

I think a lot of Niners fans (Fields/Wilson fans) are going to be pissed come draft day. Trey Lance is coming to the Niners. Look at the system he runs, it's close to everything he loved about Beathard. Trey is obviously much much better then Beathard and has massive potential. All the critics say Kyle needs someone mobile so he's going to answer that, but he's going to do what he does. That's QB's that stick to the system, are familiar with play action, and an NFL type system. Trey is the guy. I personally am not huge on any of these available QB's except Lawrence, he's a relatively safe bet. If we got them at 12 or traded back slightly for a project I'd be better. Had we only given the Texans multiple first rounders for Watson that would have been better, but all those accusations ruined that. Out of all them I do believe Trey has the most potential. Mac Jones is probably the safest besides Lawrence.

One more thing, Lance would need more then a year IMO to fully mature before playing. I'd think Jimmy would need to fulfill his contact or Rosen gets a shot first. Throw Lance in the fire and it could ruin him.

Maybe on some teams, I don't think starting early with us would ruin him, we have the weapons, hopefully OL and definitely coaches that would help him.
I think it would look a lot like Josh Allen, the problem is that holds the team back until he gets up to speed.
Fields would be ready to go much sooner, Wilson too though I see many interceptions early for him as he plays hero ball.
I think Mac would be ready early, and be great in his rookie contract, I don't see a guy who carries the team when the supporting cast starts to diminish.

At the beginning of Lance's pro day they were running passing plays that fit the offense of teams they were told were interested in him...it was all shanahan and Arthur Smith passing stuff.

Yeah it was a straight up guess...a pro day isn't gonna affect if you're gonna spend 3 1st rd picks.

He says he thinks the 49ers are probably taking him, but thinks he's unlikely to be in the Josh Allen category.

When Kyle was first signed as HC he talked about what he wanted in a QB and elite arm talent was something he emphasized. Went on a rant about how only a handful of guys at any one time have the ability he coveted.
Trey Lance has elite arm talent. Mahomes like with his velocity and clearly the biggest arm in the draft. This guy could easily be the QB Kyle is falling for.

I wish people would stop comparing Lance to Mahomes. Lance has a great arm. It is not a Mahomes or Allen arm. But I can see Shanahan drafting him as a project, and in a year or two unleashing him. He sticks to the script, but adds the ability to throw deep and scramble when things don't work.

I agree with that, and Mahomes is a bad example as they have almost nothing in common play style wise.
I do however think his arm can be elite. The kid is 20 years old and has improved his throwing mechanics. I think he can take his arm to a special level.

His arm talent is comparable to Justin Herbert imo. Which is top 10 on the league...One thing Lance doesn't do is turn the ball over, if anything he's a bit "safe" and runs the offense given to him...but yeah when the play breaks down he can make good things happen, which is something we haven't had here.

I highly recommend listening to Lance Zierlein & Dane Brugler's podcast "prospects to the pros" with Quincy Avery discussing Trey Lance.
it's on Apple podcast it was on February 23rd...a ton of good nuggets on him.

I've read a few people say that while Lance is definitely a monster talent, he's not going to be ready year 1. Small school, weak competition, not much play time etc etc.
This makes sense since as of today JG is still the man and is expected to start this year. That being said It would be a miracle if he starts all 16 games so I wouldn't like tossing the rookie in there if he's not ready.
You're essentially taking someone who has the physical traits you may want, but otherwise doesn't have a ton of experience actually playing QB. I would think that may scare some teams off from selecting him that high, but I'm sure others would still take the chance. I think Lance has big bust potential.
I read that about Atlanta coveting him too and sitting him for two years behind Ryan also makes perfect sense.
In the end I am not against Lance as the potential is there and I believe with time and work Kyle can get the most of out anyone, but I would take Fields over him without a second thought.

I think at most he sits for a year.
No way you sit him for two for what you gave up for him.
