Trey Lance QB NDSU

Trey Lance QB NDSU

The plus side i see on Trey Lance is that he is MASSIVE. He is bigger than Patrick Mahomes. He's got a CANNON for an arm and is accurate. He can run over defenders. He isn't afraid of taking a hit or giving one of his own. The downside is that he seems to think only of running first and not seeing open recievers. The next is his sample size. He only played 1 game last season because of the pandemic. He has less than 25 starts his whole collegiate career. Another thing is that the Bisons don't play anybody up there in that Mickey Mouse conference thier in. Do we REALLY believe this guy is this good?🤔

well Wyoming and Josh Allen didnt have much competition either, and the same can be said for BYU and Wilson.

Yes,...people overlook what they wish, but the year before they had teams like USCw, Tennessee, Utah, and USF on the schedule. For 2020 their schedule was a bunch of warm ups,....but Wilson doesn't get flack for that while I guess Lance deserves it.
A tough guy that runs over people like Lance? Perfect for Kyle's system? A tough physical defensive guy like Saleh is going to Love him.

Zach Wilson is Ours, and Kyle and John know it. We moved up to where we need to be.

I don't think Lance has been "shooting up draft boards after his pro day" like some are saying. He was seen as QB3 for this draft right after the 2019 season, he didn't come out of nowhere. Zach Wilson shot himself up to #2 by balling out during the season. Mac Jones has been rising since the season ended more so than Lance, especially since Simms is pumping him up.
You are right that he did not come out of nowhere. That it is based off the 2019 season. But that is also the problem and why I think he is overrated. Where they ranked him coming into the 2020 season was a projection based on him improving, learning more, showing us all another full season of the progression, North Dakota state letting him throw the ball more and so on. Instead what we ended up getting is one game where he played mediocre to bad game and a Pro day where he looked extremely good. Not much to go by at all. People expected him to become one of the best QBs before this draft. So they highly ranked him but what we are left with is a guy we really have no clue about. How much he has improved since 2019? Is he better at processing info? Is he better at going through progressions? Is he even close from a mental standpoint to be able to perform in the NFL? We don't know because he played one season where he barley threw the football.

what you say is true.. We can't know for sure. But there are question marks with most of the prospects. I still have Wilson as my first choice but prefer Lance over Fields and Jones.
Lance has more pages than Fields so he's definitely the pick

16 mins in to the below video.

Cosell is a QB guru. If he likes Lance much more than Fields its good enough for me.

Was him choosing Baker over Allen or Burrow over Herbert good enough for you too?

He knows more about QB play than you or anyone in the WZ thats for sure. SO yes. I will trust his judgement. And I dont know anyone who had Herbert over Burrow. Burrow was playing great on a crap team before his injury so that is still to be determined.
I just can't imagine Kyle making such a jump for a guy with barely 300 pass attempts. Including a pretty ugly game vs one of the better competitions he's had in his only game this year.

we'll see soon enough but seems crazy to me to have that type of trade up for so much projection.

I mean seriously. This is a highlight video of Lance. It is ridiculous. There isn't one throw that makes you go "Wow this guy is special." It is a bunch of single read and then run stuff. He is running over CB's from Butler and UC Davis that are 5'9" with 4.8 speed. It looks like a High School recruiting video. Every single throw is either a deep route with a guy beating a CB by 5 yards or a wide open red zone look. The announcer yells "WIDE OPEN!" after almost every play. There are absolutely zero timing routes where he is throwing the ball before a receiver makes a break. At about the 5:40 mark, he hits the TE for on a go route for a 25 yard TD. He completes the pass but throws the ball behind him with the TE wide open. At the 6:05 mark, he fumbles the snap then picks it up and runs it 25 yards untouched into the end zone for a TD against South Dakota. The only decent throw that he makes is at the 6:20 mark to a covered receiver. Even there he overthrows it slightly and the WR only gets one foot in.

I'm not one that harps on the talent level of competition but this is just bad. You've got one year of play against Butler, UC Davis, Illinois State and others.
Hero, please post that ridiculous play you did a few day ago? I don't understand what this guy is watching!
So this guy was the only one we didn't show up at his pro day.

I read 30 teams showed up, I'm thinking we were likely one of them. However the article said 9 GMs showed up and Lynch was not listed and Shanahan wasn't listed either. Seems strange to be the target if they don't bother to even show up (although pro days are a bit of a joke).
