This is my favorite Trey Lance throw, and it's not even a completion. Trey has a f**king bazooka for an arm. The dude barely steps into the throw, and still the ball explodes out of his hand for an easy 63-yard bomb. This is the type of stuff that the Rams just gave away the farm for. If Trey can sit for a year behind Jimmy and work out all the kinks in his mechanics, we could be talking a special arm.

Only he played against North Wyoming and not in the national title game. Also should be noted Mac had about 1800 more yards in those games.

How so? They are nothing alike.

I get it that he's the biggest gamble. That we already gambled the farm on this trade and it's like letting the bet ride again. But he may have the biggest ceiling of any QB in the draft and any QB since Mahomes for that matter. Could this go sideways, absolutely! But it could also work and then we're talking a dynasty with Shanahan.
Or it could blow up in our face and the whole franchise would have to be reset.
You could argue that Fields is a similar situation with less risk, but slightly less of a ceiling. And even more so for Jones. Jones with our defense and Shanahan's playcalling with our weapons is a playoff team, maybe even a SB contender. Fields (if he pans out) could be even better. And Lance could be dynamic, league-leading. Or it could be an unmitigated disaster.
I guess my point is we've already pushed all the chips in. Let it ride!

This is the way I see it: if the 49ers feel they're undoubtedly confident that Trey Lance lives, eats, and breathes football, he should be their guy. There's no weakness to him that can't be fixed if he's dedicated his life to the game. But the 49ers have to be completely confident in that. I mean not even the slightest doubt in their mind can be present. Trey Lance is the type of prospect GMs dream of drafting at the top of the draft. His tools are elite across the board. This is Josh Allen-lite. If he lives for football, draft him. If there's even the slightest bit of doubt, pass and move on.
This is a Barry Bonds-level swing for the fences, and I'm here for it.

It's an impressive throw, though Fields has hit on a deep ball that traveled nearly 65 yards in the air as well. And of course Mahomes has made deeper throws than this across his body while running sideways and falling down with no wind up.
I'm sure Shanahan will appreciate that Lance has a lot of experience with doing play action.
