So you're in on Mac?
This is my favorite Trey Lance throw, and it's not even a completion. Trey has a f**king bazooka for an arm. The dude barely steps into the throw, and still the ball explodes out of his hand for an easy 63-yard bomb. This is the type of stuff that the Rams just gave away the farm for. If Trey can sit for a year behind Jimmy and work out all the kinks in his mechanics, we could be talking a special arm.

Highest ceiling and lowest floor for this kid. It's hard to really find any real information about him outside of football. If he's the guy I hope they do their due diligence but physically he may be the most talented of the group coming out this year.
He reminds me too much of Kaepernick. I'm more on board with Fields or Jones

Never had a problem with Mac, wouldn't have a bit of a problem if he's the pick at #3. Just wish they could trade back down a little to maybe 4-7 for some extra picks this year and still get him. But wouldn't be hell bent if they do at #3. He might not be as athletic as the other top 4 prospects but he has all the right traits to be successful, IMO. The last 4.0 QB we had won us our last SB.

How so? They are nothing alike.

Only he played against North Wyoming and not in the national title game. Also should be noted Mac had about 1800 more yards in those games.

True - but he also didn't have the best WRs in the country. Goes both ways.
Trey Lance - Treylon Burks 2022
I get it that he's the biggest gamble. That we already gambled the farm on this trade and it's like letting the bet ride again. But he may have the biggest ceiling of any QB in the draft and any QB since Mahomes for that matter. Could this go sideways, absolutely! But it could also work and then we're talking a dynasty with Shanahan.

Or it could blow up in our face and the whole franchise would have to be reset.

You could argue that Fields is a similar situation with less risk, but slightly less of a ceiling. And even more so for Jones. Jones with our defense and Shanahan's playcalling with our weapons is a playoff team, maybe even a SB contender. Fields (if he pans out) could be even better. And Lance could be dynamic, league-leading. Or it could be an unmitigated disaster.

I guess my point is we've already pushed all the chips in. Let it ride!

Trey has much better footwork...and he is just 20 years old. He is just scratching the surface.
I like the fact that he is 6'4" and has a thick build. He's built to take on punishment at the next level. Based on his highlights he's not afraid of contact either.

I wouldn't mind taking him and have him sit a year behind Jimmy, while he learns the playbook. And then unleash him in the NFL in 2022.

I was on the Mac bandwagon, but only at #12 or lower. Now with the draft capital that was given up, I want a something more. A playmaker for Kyle to mold.

This is the way I see it: if the 49ers feel they're undoubtedly confident that Trey Lance lives, eats, and breathes football, he should be their guy. There's no weakness to him that can't be fixed if he's dedicated his life to the game. But the 49ers have to be completely confident in that. I mean not even the slightest doubt in their mind can be present. Trey Lance is the type of prospect GMs dream of drafting at the top of the draft. His tools are elite across the board. This is Josh Allen-lite. If he lives for football, draft him. If there's even the slightest bit of doubt, pass and move on.

This is a Barry Bonds-level swing for the fences, and I'm here for it.

And when you give up what we did to pick #3, that's exactly what you do, you swing for the fences for an ELITE prospect. You don't trade up for "he fits my system best and I can win with him".

It's an impressive throw, though Fields has hit on a deep ball that traveled nearly 65 yards in the air as well. And of course Mahomes has made deeper throws than this across his body while running sideways and falling down with no wind up.

I'm sure Shanahan will appreciate that Lance has a lot of experience with doing play action.

Kid is 20 years old, this isn't even his grown man body yet. Couple that with an NFL strength and conditioning program and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's in that S tier group with Mahomes and Allen in a few years
