Trey Lance QB NDSU

Trey Lance QB NDSU

I watched his pro day for the 1st time and I now I am on his bandwagon. His gifted talent is incredible, The ball comes out of his hand so smoothly and he is bigger than I thought. He is the most raw but also the most talented. With him under Kyle and all these weapons and if Kyle takes his time with him, He could be someone really special.

Hmmmm Colin Cowherd said he's had Lance over to his home in CA (some speculate he's dating his daughter). He's got Lance going to SF.

Former Bengal David Pollack, comped him to Ryan Tannehill.

Lol that's the floor I have for Fields. Not a bad thing, necessarily.

As far as a ceiling for Lance, he really does remind me of Steve McNair. I also made the comparison to Andrew Luck before.

Agree! I think that's one of the other reasons the 49ers paid three first round picks to trade up to #3, and that was to buy time to evaluate all three potential #3 picks. I think they needed the most time with Trey because of the covid situation and the fact that they are very limited in their ability to have personal time with all three potential picks. A month is barely enough time to do any sort of good diligence to pick the next bust or hall of fame player on your roster. I think even there was no covid situation, a month isn't enough.

Honestly the current Ryan Tannehill is not that bad.
Jimmy fails to see the open guy.

Trey does too, more than I'd like, BUT:

The team went to the Super Bowl with Jimmy because Shanahan can scheme around Jimmy's limitations. Trey has essentially ZERO physical limitations, which means when Shanahan schemes open looks for Lance, they will include down the field touchdowns.

That's why Lance is a safe pick. Even if he doesn't develop very much in terms of the things not related as much to physical talent, he'll still be an upgrade and capable of putting fear in the heart of the defense on this team.

As for IF he can develop the ability to see the field post-snap better, I think a little bit will happen, certainly. But guys rarely improve dramatically at that. However, Lance is so utterly inexperienced that there may be portions of that that just haven't been unlocked. And even if not, when he doesn't find the open guy and finds himself in a rut, every once in a while he'll pick up yards anyway with his legs, or bullying a blitzing db and making an off-schedule play.

So yeah, Shanahan has to be strongly considering him.

Lol that's pretty random. Going the extra mile to get the inside scoop.

Cowherd is resorting to selling out his daughter for inside scoops the commitment to his job is real lol.
If they are going to let Jimmy start this year, and it looks like they are, then drafting Lance and letting him take a full year to learn makes sense. Even if Jimmy gets hurt, they can use Rosen as the backup if they feel Lance isn't ready. I honestly don't know who I would take between Fields and Lance. Last seson was nearly wiped out so I really haven't seen enough of either one to make a decision. Other than Lawrence, all the top QB prospects have limited starting experience so teams are going to have to rely on workouts, interviews and a very small sample size of games. That includes Wilson since he played such a weak schedule after all the replacement games he had because of COVID. The potential for bust this year might be higher than normal.
What lance has over Mac and fields is kind of the best of both worlds with experience in a pro style offense with pre snap reads and the physical freak traits in a qb, which is what kyle said himself is what his drawn up qb is like. The problem is that he is a little raw with accuracy, lack of tape, and smaller competition. You can make a great argument as for why kyle would love each of the most likely 3 qbs and thats what he and lynch want. No one knows who we want and it keeps teams from trading up with the jets
I don't understand what Lance has that Fields doesn't have. Seems like the only thing is experience playing under center with a FB. I think Lance is QB #5 with us.

God bless Cowherd. Investigative journalism is a dying field.
