I completely agree with this, but as much as I love Lance, Fields is the guy, if we confirm any of the work ethic stuff, then fine go with Lance.

The next 49ers Qb with the number 3 pick will be Trey Lance . Just purchased my Jersey! @treylance09 welcome to the #Faithful #GoNiners

Yeah he got wind of the big trade up to #3 beforehand...we'll see about this one.
Outside of the inner circle, I find it hard to believe that anyone knows for sure who the Niners are going to pick. Seems like a lot of people are guessing or just trying to connect the dots.

If Kyle and John really felt the pain of passing on Mahomes and losing in the SB to him then Lance is the pick. Can't state enough how massive his upside is and there's no better coach and team to get him there.

I don't agree with you often but that's a fair cautionary tale. Lance has a lot more talent than Trubisky IMO, but shouldn't be thrown in too early, give him that full year with a clipboard.
Or maybe just design a Red Zone package to ease him in and give the team a boost, something like the Ravens did with Lamar.

Man I didn't know he received offers from Cornell and Brown University coming out of high school. Good to know he's a smart kid too.
I go back and forth between him and Fields. I can't fault him because of where he went to school. I think he could have played just as well as Fields or Jones at OSU or Alabama. Josh Allen was an mvp candidate last season and I think he'll keep getting better and he went to freaking Wyoming. At least NDSU had a 2nd overall pick drafted 5 years ago and I think he'll be back to his 2017 form this season.

The difference between Lance and Trubisky is that Trey was the starter at 19 years old not 22.
But yes the lack of games is concerning just as it is for Mac Jones. And that´s something they should absolutely have in mind.
Justin Fields is a two years starter.
That being said, if Mike Shanahan was really at Trey Lance´s pro day as some people said, that´s really interesting.

I heard we only sent a scout to Trey Lance's pro day which was subsequently explained by Shanny that he had to keep things low profile prior to trading up to #3.

Yeah I remember a tweet saying it was a regional scout.

Hey everyone, Fargo native here checking in. FWIW both Lance or Fields would be good picks IMO. If it is Jones I literally am going to have to jump in a frozen lake.
I wanted to address what I see as a major misconception about his accuracy. I agree that it's perhaps the most concerning thing about him. Especially when you just look at the straight up stats. Stats can be misleading though so I would encourage people to dig a little deeper and look into more advanced statistics like adjusted completion %. I have seen people quoting a 44% accuracy past the LOS number for him that I have never seen, although I don't discount it, I just wonder exactly how that number was arrived at. The reality is that Lance's accuracy is FAR better than Josh Allen's when he was drafted. It also needs to be considered that Fields was throwing primarily option routes, which are way easier to complete than the types of throws that Lance was asked to make in NDSU's pro style offense. Just quickly think about the fact that most of NDSU's passing plays had 3 or 4 potential receivers while the system at Ohio State frequently spreads the field with 5 potential targets. The throws in NDSU's offense are more difficult to complete, and this is something I've heard more than one analyst say so it's not just coming from me.
There are other people on here who hate his game tape, but I wonder which games they've actually watched. The most common two would probably be Central Arkansas, almost certainly his worst game (although he still shows flashes of his talent even in that game). The other would likely be the FCS championship game against James Madison. NDSU were slight underdogs and JMU had a great defense. I don't think his receivers were getting open much, but Lance won the game with his legs. If you check out some other games from 2019 you'll see more throwing. In general though the MO of NDSU is to run the ball, control the clock, play great defense, and occasionally gouge the other team with a big play. They're not going to change their strategy to win football games so people will feel better about drafting their QBs. Considering the guy between Wentz and Lance also got drafted (Easton Stick) and they are an FCS team, it doesn't seem to be hurting the players' draft stock.
I also disagree that he's the least pro ready. When Wentz was drafted, there were scouts who said he was very pro ready because of NDSU's system (granted he was a 5th year senior and I think 24 when he was drafted) and those who said he wasn't because he played in the FCS and Goff was more pro ready because of his level of competition. Think what you will about Wentz now, I'm not going to defend his last season. I think he was trying to play hero ball on a bad team and it backfired tremendously. However, you can't say he didn't impress people running the Eagles offense as a rookie. They believed in him enough during preseason to fleece the Vikes for a 1st round pick for Bradford. Not all that surprising... Wentz was a 4.0 student while Goff didn't know if the sun rose in the east or the west. By the way, I couldn't confirm this, but I heard Trey actually graduated college somehow at 20.
Sorry for the long post, TLDR I agree with those who say Lance has the highest ceiling but Fields is obviously right there and I would not blame them for selecting him over Trey.

I like Lance only after Fields. Lance has upside but I can't see him being better than Fields right now. Mac Jones is a tier less than Lance imo
