All in on Lance, please be the pick

John Elway is the superstar comp for Lance's upside. So it all depends on how favorable the Shanahans would value a QB with Elway traits.

I think his upside is higher than Elway.
Elway was the best player out of HS, the #1 college player and 1st pick, and a Hall of Fame Player with 2 SB rings. Give me a break with this kid's upside being higher than Elways. If he amounts to half the player he would still be a success

No one under the age of forty understands what Elway was. Best qb prospect ever probably. And then went on to live up to the hype. Great player. No Joe Montana though
I know most 49er fans disagree on this but.... put Elway with Walsh and he would be the GOAT. He played on some teams in Denver with marginal talent and carried them to several Super Bowls where they had little chance.

Team Lance
Steve Young: faster, more agile, and more accurate than Elway.
Highest ceiling imo. If we draft Lance, he sits and learns then goes all super saiyan in year 2 after we win the Superb owl and trade Jimmy for two 1s

Bump, I still think this is the route that happens.
I'm not seeing the Elway comp but I'd certainly much rather Lance over Jones.

Lance actually worries me due to lack of experience, competition and the meh performance this season but his potential is clear and Kyle picking him means he sees the kid as someone with a good enough base to grow from.

However I don't really see anything that Lance does that Fields cannot. Is Lance's arm better than Fields? If it is, it's not by much.

I personally prefer Fields being a known stud since HS and to me doing nothing to dispel that vs top competition. There is no chance of a flash in the pan type guy. Simply a question of how much he wants it and at least I don't see any reason to question that.

I know Lance has gotten a lot of good press from him as a player and person and Fields has been a little less on that front but Lance got to sit back and work on his NFL future after the single game he had. Fields was playing in the last college game of the season.

Right now for me it's Fields, Wilson, Lance at 3....then Mac Jones. A pick that I could live with but i'd probably break into the liquor cabinet after it. And I haven't drank in like 8 years.
Awfully big risk to draft Lance with Fields still on the board. I like Lance after Fields. I can't sit here and say that Lance has a higher ceiling than Fields either.

Lance played under center in college while Fields played in a spread. Lance will be asked to do the same things in the niners offense that he practiced everyday in college. Fields will need to learn a new skill set. Up until a few years ago spread qbs were pretty much guaranteed to struggle in the nfl. That changed because nfl teams changed their offenses. Shannahan is not one of those guys.

Yet still not as good.

My thoughts as well

As Elway? You sure?

The #3 overall pick is not sitting for 2 seasons unless Jimmy wins a Superbowl next year.

trey lance is very raw and we have jimmy for two more years

From a pure QBing perspective, I'll take Fields over Lance. Fields also doesn't have to come in immediately and do those things (play under center), so combining his skill set, dedication to football, essentially two offseasons and a full season to get acclimated to the offense, I think we'll see some special things from Fields in 2022. With that said, I think Lance will as well, depending on where he goes.

It's one thing if the QB has to sit for one year, but if this goes into year 2, it better be because Jimmy won the Super Bowl or made it to the NFCCG at least. However, you lose the value of having the QB on the rookie contract the longer he sits. One year should be sufficient for a QB drafted no. 3 overall. Any QB that NEEDS to sit for 2 years shouldn't be drafted that high.

Yes. Im sure you will go by QB ratings. I went by my eyes and I guess these rankings agree

Trust me. I loved Steve Young. I never had a Montana jersey but had a Steve Young one. But I just think Elway was better. Maybe if Steve had been better in the playoffs I would agree with you.

In any case, this is about Lance. Moving on.
