As Elway? You sure?

Trust me. I loved Steve Young. I never had a Montana jersey but had a Steve Young one. But I just think Elway was better. Maybe if Steve had been better in the playoffs I would agree with you.
In any case, this is about Lance. Moving on.
1991-1999:
John Elway: 79 wins, 165 TDs, 98 INTs, 85.3 QB rating. 1,474 rush yards 19 TDs. Approximate value: 111
Steve Young: 84 wins, 198 TDs, 80 INTs, 101.4 QB rating. 2,922 rush yards 33 TDs. Approximate value: 143
And all the rankings have Elway over Young. But I guess you are smarter . Elway had an elite arm. Young certainly did not. He also played on mediocre teams that he elevated to the SBs. Then he won 2 when he finally got some real talent. Steve had incredible players on the offensive end, including the best WR of all time, but really did not play well in the playoffs other than the 94 season.
I would put Steve top 10 but in no way would i put him over Elway. Like I said, put Elway on the Niners under Bill Walsh and he would have been the GOAT in my opinion. No QB had more God given talent.
Lol this x 1000000
I know it's a 49ers forum and all but how can anyone argue that Young was better than Elway. Elway was on another level or two above Steve.

Based on subjective rankings? Okay then. Im just giving you numbers like Elway went to a pro bowl in 1991 with 12 TDs and 13 INTs in 16 starts while completing 53% of his passes. That same year Young threw 17 TDs in 10 starts while completing 64% of his passes.
You can do with it what you want.

People like Elway more than Young because Elway was considered a hero QB for years before he won anything. Young is paying for being in Joe Montana's shadow, and losing those years. Steve Young only was a starting QB in San Francisco for 7 full years. Elway had more than a decade.
100% if I had to choose between Young and Elway, I'm taking Young.

He got pretty marginal teams into several superbowls where he got beat by elite NFC teams. Seriously, on any other teams forum it would be a landslide for Elway over Young. If Lance can be close to the QB that Elway was the Niners should run to the podium and take him.

You can do with it what you want.
Based on common sense and eye test. Your teammates and coaches matter. Elway's teams were far less talented.
If Elway played for the Niners instead of Steve:
Montana would have been gone earlier.
Dallas Cowboys wouldn't have won 3 Super Bowls in the 90s.
Brett Farve wouldn't have ever won a Super Bowl
And no way Falcons would have beaten that loaded 49ers roster
I believe Niners would have 7-8 Super Bowls right now instead of 5. Steve Young was a great great QB but he underachieved with that Niners team in the playoffs. Steve would say so himself if he was being honest.

Another day of me thinking Lance is the guy. My current hypothesis is we traded up to three once Saleh told us they're taking Wilson. We heard Atlanta liked Trey so it had to be three. Floated Mac Jones out there to keep the falcons from full blown panicking and offering the jets a deal they couldn't refuse. Trey Lance just fits our system perfectly. Also has the best arm in the draft and with all that experience under center running play action Kyle has actually seen what he'd look like running our plays. I'm all in on Trey

From the beginning of this trade, my ranking was:
Wilson > Lance > Fields > Jones
It still is.

I respect Cosell's opinion because he watches a lot more film than almost anyone else. Maybe even more than some coaches. I just wish last year hadn't been wiped out for Lance so there would be more film to evaluate him. He looks the part and has youth on his side. Really a lot of room to grow. I know he has a big bust potential but all of these guys do. He's also the type of guy that we Niner fans could be wishing we had taken 3 years from now.

Have you seen this game breakdown on Wilson by JTO? https://youtu.be/glVUXaRy5PU
I could easily see the niners having Lance #2 after Lawrence.

Yup, I'd be ecstatic if Lance is #3 because of the reasons you posted.

I am reaching the same conclusion. I didn't in the beginning. But, the more I read and see his videos on YouTube - for the Niners - he's looking like the best option if Jets take Wilson as expected.
