And don't act like that doesn't matter. Leadership matters and emotional stability matters. Mac Jones might piss some people off. Players will bleed for Trey Lance.

Yeah, he's an impressive young man. If Kyle wants to hitch his wagon to him I'd get on board.

I wouldn't be mad at the pick. But I see two years of sitting if he's the guy. Or a year and begin to ease him in during year 2. The lack of experience is scary. This isn't Cam Newton at Auburn. Wherever he goes, I hope there is a competent staff in place because the talent is there.

Sure, BamaNiner. It's well documented that Mac is what I said he is, but I understand why you feel a need to defend him. Everything is relative and relative to Fields and Lance, Jones does not compare favorably.

Which is why until overpaid talking head analysts started saying "Jones is just like Kirk" "He's the pick" no one had him being picked in the top 10. I'm not going to sit here and say he's not a 1st rounder, but no one thought of him as a top 5 pick or even top 10 pick until the 49ers traded up to 3. Doesn't that just beg the question... why move up so far to get him when you could probably have drafted him at 12? It makes zero sense and I can't believe the vegas odds right now. They are going to make a mint off the people betting Jones will go 3. Either that or Shanahan is stupid and likes to give away 1st rounders for no reason. Those are really the only options from a rational point of view.

Why bring up Jones here? He's already shown he can lead a group of alpha male athletes to a perfect season and title. That's much harder to do than getting a linemen from Blue Rock, Montana to buy in.
There are some things you can ding Mac on, but leadership is not one of them. Everybody at Bama loved him in that locker room

Because there's something about him that gives me pause. For example, him saying, "I'll stay within the scheme" smacks as disingenuous, as if he's saying exactly what he thinks the team picking the highest he can possibly go wants to hear, instead of just showing who he is.
With all the focus on Jones and lance, wouldn't it be something if the Niners go long term and pick Lance.
This is the guy I think I've always believed that SF has moved up for. Still thought as much through all the Jones noise, and I'll roll with it until I'm proven wrong. Not saying he's my #1 choice, but I'd be most certainly good with it.

100% agree

Concur. So much so that I'm placing money in Vegas that he will be the pick. I really believe come draft night, the 49ers will surprise a lot of people by taking the QB with the highest upside in Lance. I don't think Shanny will be dissuaded by the lack of experience. If anything, I can see him valuing talent and traits over experience...especially talent that he can mold. By doing so, he will finally put to rest this silly narrative that he only prefers non-mobile system QBs.

Add the fact the scheme he played in at NDSU is very similar to Kyle's, I also get the feeling this is the guy. I really believe if he puts it all together he's going to be the best qb in this class

Are we sure he has the highest upside? He'll never be as fast as Fields, and I don't think he'll ever be as accurate either. But he's younger, and he's spent more time under center.

I would say so. Arm strength is comparable to Fields but plays faster in the pocket with a quicker release. Looks to have more natural instincts maneuvering the pocket.

And a more fluid runner with the ball. It just looks easy for him.

He certainly has an added dimension to his running. Not quite Cam Newton level, but he's a load.

I just hope he's not used like Cam. Would hate to see his body break down like Cam.

4.44 in shorts at a staged pro day is not as impressive as a GPS tracker on Lance listing a top speed of 21.54mph on a 44 yard game sealing TD run in his national championship game against James Madison.
Only thing I don't like about this kid is that he doesn't throw great touch passes like fields does IMO. He likes to rifle everything a la kaepernick
