Trey Lance QB NDSU

Trey Lance QB NDSU

Should Lance have played this coming year in college? I think he should have.

Lance was the hope pre trade. He's an exciting prospect and seems like a really easy dude to root for.

But Fields is both blue chip talent and has unlimited upside. I feel like he would have been drafted #1 overall in many years. I don't think you pass on that for a QB like Lance who has such a wide range of outcomes.

That said, if Lance is the pick I would be excited. Slightly anxious.. but excited.

I'm not sure about Fields having a higher upside, and the reason is right in your statement... "blue chip talent"

Fields has had access to elite coaching since what... high school? Lance has just begun that type of training and I think his mechanics look cleaner right now (and Lance is over a year younger) than Fields.

As an aside... I really wish I would've hedged my Lance bet with Fields when I made it a couple weeks ago. I would've made $$ if either was the pick and I guess if the pick is Mac I'll have to admit I know NOTHING about football. Which is possible . Now the Fields odds suck compared to two weeks ago .

Nerding out on the draft requires you to admit you know nothing about football. Sometimes... I feel like a genius that I was really high on Antonio Brown and Arian Foster before the draft. And I feel like a moron for having Rosen rated as the best QB in his year. Kelvin Benjamin made me feel like a genius and then like a moron. This stuff is hard. Luckily we're just doing it for fun 🙂

Anyway, I just wanted to be clear that I don't think Fields has higher upside than Lance. I think they are both capable (especially under Shan) of being right up there with Mahomes.

I don't think that a 22 year old kid, no matter how much they have trained, can be maxed out. In fact, the reason I like that Fields is "blue chip" is because I think he has a head start on getting to that upside. No matter how many camps you do as a kid, you're going to keep learning as an adult.

It's not that simple, his team's season was moved to the Spring, he was never going to be able to play and prepare for the draft, so if he plays this year he then either applies for the supplemental draft, takes the fall season off, has to play 2 more seasons of FCS football, or transfer to a new team.

Even then it's not that simple, when he would have had to decide to transfer he still thought they'd get a 3-4 game season, one against a Division 1 school, he stated that NDSU gave him his chance so he wanted to see it out with them.

If he did transfer he couldn't have gone to the Big Ten or the Pac12 at that time, as they didn't have a season planned either, so which SEC team are without a QB and had the system or scheme to not suck and hurt his stock.

Given that he's still going to go top 15, can you say he made the wrong decision?

Now that would have been fun. Seeing a legit top prospect going that route and teams throwing down first rounders to get him.
I like some aspects of Lance's game more than Fields but I could easily see Fields be the best QB in this class if he cleans up some things. I really don't think we can go wrong with either at 3.

I'm just so happy we will have a mobile qb with a great arm.

I don't trust Lombardi's sourcing. The only local guy that makes me stop and take note when he says something is Maiocco.

But I hope Lombardi is right. I love Lance in this offense.

I did this - Fields $100 @ -250, Lance $50 @ -500 so I win $250 and profit $100 either way.
I'll be more than excited with Fields. I think he's gonna be a great QB in Shanahan's system. But, make no mistake - if Shanahan can get every QB to reach their highest potential - then Lance's potential is on another level than every QB in this draft.

Had he went back to school and played in 2021 - I have no doubt he'd be no. 1 pick in next years draft.

Nice odds on Lance!! I think I got -300 for Lance and I could've got like -200 for Fields at the time.

-500 wins $10 with a $50 dollar bet
