I personally saw some McNabb in him. Honestly I'm not as high on trey as I am with Fields but I would be excited too if we get lance.

I'll take Lance over Fields, That 4.4 40 doesn't matter if he isn't elusive. Lance looks like he had the natural vision of a runner. Fields has more tape and track record but Lance has that beautiful deep ball

Fields was insanely accurate on deep balls. I understand that people might prefer Lance to Fields, but that seems like a strange reason for doing so.

One of Fields weaknesses imo is deep ball accuracy. Very spotty on the long distance throws.

Yeah but it goes both ways. I'd be willing to bet Lance has the most drops by his teammates of all the QBs in the draft by far. I saw a lot when I watched all his games his receivers aren't on the same level as the other top QBs even though his team in general were very good compared to the competition.

He's certainly not gonna throw zero ints in the NFL but I think he will take care of the football and take less sacks then Fields or Wilson.

Very good is an understatement. The same program went undefeated and won the FCS championship with Easton Stick at QB. NDSU is a Division 1 Program that insists on remaining in the FCS. On a player by player comparison they outclassed every single FCS program.

As a result, rarely did they need Lance to win games with his arm.

Both statements can be true right? His teammates were better overall but also he had the worst WRs of any top QB in this class. You think of who Kyle Trask, Mac Jones, and Justin Fields was throwing to and it's not close.

Lance's passing was the least important to his teams success true. But that's why we're scouting these players for their individual ability and why Kyle Trask isn't seen as a first rounder anymore.

And to be fair... I think Easton Stick was a great college QB and faired pretty well in the preseason last year. He just doesn't have the tools that either Lance or Wentz had.

Worst receivers, sure. But what level of DBs was he going against compared to the others?

Doesn't mean Lance lacks the tools however. Going to be interesting, but Lance is the biggest projection of all 5 QBs. The good news is he does have a skillset that projects to the pro level. But I couldn't make him my pick at number 3 overall.

And the CBs those WRs were going up against were largely future insurance agents.

Adjusted for the level of competition, none of the top QBs had a more stacked team around them.

I'm not holding the talent disparity against him as he was part of that talent disparity but his life was a lot easier than some of these other QBs so it's tough to tell how he'll respond if he's going to have to sit in the pocket, make his reads and simply let it rip over and over again. I don't think anyone wants him running as much as he did in college, least of all Shanahan.

That part is a projection because we didn't really see him do it in college.
I just can't see it. How in the world could you pick a NDSU QB above Fields or Mac Jones? Yes Wentz went #2 overall. Had some success for a while. Then got injured and struggled. But I just think it's a big jump for him. He's also not 6'5" like Wentz. A program like Ohio State or Alabama just has to prepare you better for coming into the NFL. But NDSU is the best at their division level. I just can't see him at #3 overall. I think we could have stayed put and got him there if this is what we wanted. It almost hast to be Mac Jones or Fields.

NDSU has the best players at the division level. They would be stacked compared to who they are playing week in and week out. They are Alabama or Clemson of their division level.

It doesn't almost have to be Jones lol. Not at all

Are we really gonna squabble over one inch in height? That's silly. Also the program doesn't matter a whole lot when the top QBs in football include guys from Texas Tech and Wyoming.

If Lance fails it won't be due to him not being tall enough or having gone to a school whose system does a between job of preparing QBs for the NFL than most D1 schools. You can draw a direct line to Josh Allen and Carson Wentz from the same scheme.

Maybe not. But one of those 2 seems most likely. You never really know exactly what they are thinking.

Maybe they are that high on him. You think he is that good? #3 overall?
I guess Lombardi has the same sentiment as me, Fields may not be the pick. Keep doubting the process, not everyone will be happy with the choice, heck I would love Fields to go #2!

Living in San Diego for the past 11 years, he may have a point because we're farther away from the action at 49ers HQ. But if you have sources here and there, in addition to the internet as conduit would provide you enough information to make your own conjecture.

Talent level is Top 5. I do have my reservations about him for a variety of reasons but if a coach can harness that talent and get him to improve his accuracy, make him more of a pocket passer, I think he can be a very good NFL QB, at least as good as Allen but I do think there are more question marks compared to someone like Fields who has a huge upside too but is a lot more proven.
