Kyle and John would have massive iron balls to pass on Fields or even Mac in a sense for Trey Lance.
But I would lie if I didn´t think that drafting Trey Lance would be exciting as hell.

Really great pod on Lance and some Fields. He's coaches/coaching both and he said Lance ceiling is higher than every QB in the draft in his opinion.
Go to 11minute mark - he's talking about Lance.
Really want Lance at 3. He's gonna be something else in Shanahan's offense.
Absolute great listen Want Lance at 3 even more after watching this video no doubt
Anyone who hasn't visited this page recently and is here bc today is his 2nd pro day - plz watch this above video.
Best takeaway for me was - he fully ran the ND St offense as a 19 year old kid. They gave him full powers to make all kinds of changes at the LOS. That's something else. But there are lot of other great Nuggets in it too.
Of course some is fluff but many things are backed up by what he has done and there isn't just things like - oh his work ethic is really great - there are specific examples like - he wanted his next 3 weeks day by day - session by session - exactly mapped out - things these coaches have not seen from other players.
He's definitely very impressive for a guy who is a month away from Turing 21.
There is only 1 reason that this could possibly be happening today after giving up so much to get to the 3d pick. Shanny wants cousins 2.0 but everyone else doesn't. You can't take Jones in this era of bigger and faster dlines and other teams with canon armed qb's. We have an arrogant egotistical qb bumblef**k as head coach. Impose your will Jed. If he leaves then he leaves. Don't pass up on another potential Mahommes.

Hope he dominates today! He needs to show how he has improved his mechanics and coaches have to figure out if that will translate to the field and improve his accuracy. His competition and accuracy are the biggest question marks - but he was 19 when he played last. That's a big difference. We saw him play 16-17 months ago - whole careers change in 12 months in college.

Would be surprising if today's pro day would be enough to sway the team to pick him if that's not already the direction we are heading.
