Mayo, it's not cast in stone anywhere, and don't think for a moment when Saleh, GM, and OC were at Field's 2nd pro day run by Kyle, that they didn't leave there with some deep misgivings about , "Did we make our decision on Zack too soon?" Bet your boots that convo occurred. Nobody left Field's 2nd day thinking, ,"Man what a dog"....sure glad we got Zack.
It didn't go down like that. They left Fields 2nd pro day completely in awe, and looking at his competition vs Zacks...they were muy impressed. I'll bet the house on that. KS/JL/peters have to have spent some serious time on Zack too. Did Peters by chance attend zacks pro day? IDK.
the chance of JEts going Fields? I'd say fairly good. Their decision is basically just two guys . One they basically unofficially announced welcome to NY, and the other...i think they left Fields 2nd pro day completely stuck in undecided.
remember just a couple yrs ago, JL/KS went to draft with agreement "NO QBs" and John has said several times, "that was the one decision i agreed to that really bothered me"...with Mahomes there. And he wasn't the only QB, either
Mahomes was an unknown product back then. Even NY85 (supposedly) had Mahomes ranked somewhere outside of the first round. Their game plan was Kirk in the offseason, then comes Jimmy.
Jets are locked in at Zach. Jags with Lawrence. (at least that's what some of the most credible pundits say). All three - Lawrence, Zach and Mac are supposedly advanced enough to step in as a starter - should they need to, whereas even Fields (and absolutely) Lance needs some seasoning and marination before they are ready to be NFL starters.
If Kyle picks Lance, I think Lance eventually will be an elite QB with the kind of arm that John Elway had, and more mobility than John. I think Kyle can coach up Lance to have better accuracy and a quicker release, otherwise Kyle wouldn't pick Lance. It's funny but a guy like John Elway, when he got out of the Sid Gillman long ball offense, and went to a more West Coast Offense under Mike Shanahan, he had better success. I think the key to long terms success for Lance is getting that arm under control (i.e. softer touch passes), getting his release quicker, and getting more accurate. I think if he can do that, he can operate any offensive scheme in the NFL.
