You don't waste the time of these players, their coaches, and you certainly don't waste your own time - which is super valuable right now with 10 days left in the draft. Also, you don't travel for no good reason during a pandemic. Kyle and Lynch have families - who they like spending time with - and they're not risking their health with useless trips to ND or OH.

You don't ask Lance to leave his private coaches for few weeks and come train with Beck. Same with Fields.

You don't waste Beck's time to prepare phony pro-days for Lance and Fields.

Are you under the impression that he's doing this for free?

As far as the players, Lance got to show off again in front of several other teams. Consider it a job interview.

Well I'm flattered you want my rankings
I'm actually not super duper high on Wilson. Disclaimer I'm an armchair GM with a special interest in QBs this year because I'm drafting low in my 2 QB dynasty draft. Also these wouldn't be fantasy related because landing spot matters for that.

1) TLaw
2a) Lance
2b) Fields
3) Wilson
4) Mond
5) Jones

The reason I have Lance ever so slightly over Fields is because I do think Fields has issues handling pressure and is missing open guys more often than I would like. As in missing an opportunity to throw to them and choosing to throw somewhere else. Also for being drafted by the 49ers in particular I think Fields has more to go learning wise than Lance does.

Edit - Also JT had Herbert ranked #8 last year I'm pretty sure. I love his videos, but this ranking business is tricky and anyone can be woefully wrong at times.

FWIW Lance misses more guys then anyone in this class.

The Niners have a playoff caliber team who could go far into the playoffs with a healthy Jimmy G right now. So Chris Simms is saying to draft Mac Jones and start him right away even though he took about 10 snaps under center and never did a play action the way the 49ers do?(Completely turn his back to the defense, turn around and read a defense - took Ryan a long time to get used to this)

Mac Jones today is not better than Jimmy G. By the trade deadline, that might change. ShanaLynch's #1 priority is winning a super bowl. I'd be shocked if they thought the best strategy was to go into the season with this loaded team with a rookie QB starting.

Great post 4ML and I'm surprised people are picking out the least important part. Kyle & Lynch would be massive d*cks and also irresponsible for their other picks if they genuinely had locked into Mac at the trade and did the rest as a smoke screen.

So, Kyle is pretending to show interest in these kids - to get them to fork up some money (which btw they haven't earned yet) to his buddy Beck. That's really sleazy if he is genuinely doing this.

I highly highly doubt Kyle will do that.

...and players are doing a job interview for other teams by running drills and throws that Shanahan wants?

...and lastly what is Shanahan and Lynch getting out of all this?

Fields threw the ball 352 times in 14 games vs Lance throwing 287 times in 16 games. Not to mention the fact that Fields only threw 20 total passes in the 4th quarter in regular season games (43 for the entire year) in 2019 and didn't even play the 2nd half in two of those games.

Look at 2020 for Fields. He played in 8 games and only threw 62 fewer passes than Lance did in an entire 16 game season.

You really want to put the future of a franchise on the arm of a guy whose college team didn't even trust his arm enough to rely on vs guys who are barely better than High School level talent?

I'd rather not take that chance with someone like Fields available.

Uhhh...that is not true. They actually trusted him more than any other QB in this draft. They let him call audibles and let him run the entire offense himself at LOS.

Then Lance didn't trust himself to throw if he called all of those designed run plays for himself.
So, if am a recruiter - some new college graduate comes to me and really wants me to recommend them - I tell them - your resume needs more work - so go to this buddy of mine - he provides certain courses and certificates - pay for them - ace them - and then come back and talk to me - all the while I have no interest in ever recommending them.

Yea...I think that'll be really sleazy thing to do....and I think we all can confidently say that Kyle Shanahan is not a sleazebag.

loool he didn't lose a single game - won a championship while never turning the ball over in a meaningful game. I think he made the right calls.

Also - the guy turned foe. Division I to play QB. I think self confidence is not a trait that he's lacking.

Easton Stick went undefeated while winning the FCS Championship, should he be the 49ers QB?

Easton Stick?

I refuse to believe that is a real person.

Never ever have I said that those are the only reasons why Lance should be 49ers QB.

Who says he's pretending? The 49ers should be doing their due diligence on everyone. Even if you think there's only a 10% chance you might draft a guy, you go ahead and give them a full look because the stakes are so high and you don't have the usual evaluation tools at your disposal.

It'd be negligent to not get a good grasp of all these QBs, see them in person, do the background character research, talk to people around them, go through the film over and over again. In the end they still can only draft one of these guys so someone's going to be disappointed.

Ohhh I watched the Games believe me. His tape was so bad I could barely get through it. I think It helps to explain how bad someone is with there GOD awful stats to back it up..I just wanted to paint you all a picture of what you think we should be drafting.

I went to bed last night thinking to myself. How? How could someone who played that bad and not throw a single Interception in 2019? Could a man truly be that lucky? Did the man actually make a deal with the Devil? The only thing I could come up with is when he missed his receiver. And trust me he missed them often. That it was because he threw the ball so damn hard, with so little touch, was so inaccurate, so off-target.....That no one on the entire football field could see where he threw it, let alone actually catch it.

I'm going to copy and paste this and we'll come back to this statement in three years. I have a strong feeling you'll be eating crow. It's kind of rich to say your piss poor surface level tape evaluation matches his GOD awful stats:

Lance's 2019 "GOD awful" stats:
2,786 yards on 67% completion
28 passing TDs to 0 INTs
NFL passer rating 131
Rush yards 1,100
Rush TDs 14

I would add that you clearly just don't like him if that's what you're seeing while "evaluating" his tape.

You can't watch his games and tell me you believe he is a consistent QB. I know he and Kaep are different players, but "one" thing that "reminds" me about Kaep when I watch him play is he will make the throws that no one else can make, and he will miss the throws no one else can miss. That was incredibly frustrating as a 49ers fan, and I would just prefer no to have to go through that again. Maybe Fields might take too long to throw or might have a slower release, but I am confident that when Kyle schemes Juice to be wide open down the sideline, he will hit him more often than not.
