Long term its hard to commit to Garoppolo due to the injuries but for a year, if he stays healthy, he's the 49ers best shot by far at returning to the SB barring some wacky trade for Stafford or someone of that caliber.
Going after Fitzpatrick is saying "well, we're punting on this season but give it a year and you guys will be amazed!"
Yeah the other thing people are forgetting is team chemistry. Not to say Fitzpatrick couldn't jump right in but Garoppolo has a pretty good track record here and the guys on the team love him.
We'll see what happens with his contract which is definitely the biggest problem. I'd be surprised if someone traded for him with that contract so the other options for him are to be cut(where he wouldn't get anywhere near that anyways) or take a pay cut and stay on a team he knows, offense he knows and probably his best chance to keep his starting job or if the 49ers grab a rookie early he can help himself with another team.
The team will make a decision on him long before the draft so if he takes the paycut it would be before the draft.
inb4 we have our own version of Draft Day
Vontae Mack no matter what!
