I'm pretty sure that's not true. The Niners have such a rich history and heritage that most people would look at it as an honor to coach this team. Does not matter what the current climate surrounding the team was. Plus his own father had a rich history with us. I think deep down Shanny was happy and honored to coach us
It's a fact that nobody wanted to come here. This isn't the Eddie Debartolo 49ers. This is the York-owned 49ers. This is the organization that fired Jim Harbaugh after 3 trips to the NFCCs and a Superbowl, that can't keep anything in-house, played musical chairs the last 20 years with head coaches, can't fill its home stadium, hasn't won a god damn thing since the Yorks took over and had endless off-field issues with its players. Again, this is not the 49ers a lot of you older folks grew up watching. This is a s**t-tier organization that had a terrible reputation around the league. Shanahan and Lynch have done a good job building it up, but don't let that fool you. This is still the York-owned 49ers.
Nobody wanted to come here. It's a fact. Things were so bad that Jed York and Paraag Marathe had a set up a powerpoint presentation to convince Kyle Shanahan or Josh McDaniel to consider taking the job.
When Josh McDaniel pulled out, Jed York literally had to beg Kyle Shanahan to coach his team. He let Shanny handpick his own GM, gave him an unprecedented 6-year deal for a rookie head coach, and guaranteed him the final call(it's written in his contract) on the roster. Yeah, Shanny has Jed by the balls.
