This SI article, and things like it, is going to make me so pissed if we pick Jones.

Trey is someone you want to root for; someone you'd be PROUD to root for. I really want to see him on that post-game podium in Santa Clara. Ugh.

Me too! Great kid! would love to have him as our QB. A guy you feel you can trust. I get the heebie jeebies when Mac Jones talks, like he is trying hard to put his best fake face on...kinda like the Ted Bundy type. Something about him that makes you kinda squeamish and not feel like you can trust him.

Omg are niners fans now officially comparing Mac to serial killers??? This is getting more sureal by the minute!
Lol. Ftr I just said Lance has unusually high character. Doesn't mean the other guys are of poor character. I like Jones as a player. I just like Lance' potential more.

You know black people can have high character and it's just called having high character, doesn't have to described as unusual

Jesus another one.

Lance LEADS BIBLE STUDIES and listens to self-help audio books. He has UNUSUALLY HIGH CHARACTER and YOU are yet another virtue signaling hypocrite who needs an internet soapbox to supplement your low self-esteem.

Let him have it, major bs post.

Lol I need to get off the internet. But I mean, all these guys are of GOOD character, but not all of them are rallying against social injustice in a town that doesn't support them, and as I said, leading Bible studies for God's sake.

Dude it's been a rough month around here. I won't even venture the slightest into the politics of the day as that'll just add to dudes little attempt at derailing the thread. Anyone without an agenda understands you just think the guy is a high character kid. Honestly all of these guys seem to be pretty high character. But theyre also being coached up on how to act I'm sure so who knows... Never saw the deshaun Watson thing coming. I thought he was an awesome dude. Then the trade demand caught me off guard like this guy was just crying and thanking everyone involved in his life when he got his big extension. Then a year later he's demanding out? And then what came right after that was another level obviously and still playing out. Point is I take the great character stuff with a grain of salt as most of these guys are trying to present a certain image that will appeal to nfl teams and the public in general. But at the end of the day it's still all good stuff. Lance is an awesome prospect and the guy I'm hoping we pick. More film and traits than character but I'm at the age where I can't even root for a player if he's an a*****e. Character definitely matters.

You can't coach charisma, and you can't coach history that already exists (such as the aforementioned Bible studies). Does Mac Jones or Justin Fields lead Bible studies? Yeah I don't think so. Maybe. Haven't read anything about it. I highly doubt someone with a DUI is leading Bible studies, not unless he went to prison and had an "epiphany" and found Jesus in jail.

Some have even said that the Mac Jones hype is being pushed by his people and not really a guy the 49ers are considering. I know there are a few podcasters that have become close with player agents over the last year. I believe the pick will be Lance, it's just crazy how even after the reports of the team being down to two guys, they remain confident the pick will be Fields.

They were super cryptic today and didn't even want to share if they knew who they were gonna draft yet. You really think they are the ones that leaked it was down to 2. What if it was Fields who is the leader and they asked the rest of the staff to build a case for the other 2 and not fields. And some interpreted that is Fields not being considered?

Leaks are beginning to surface. Things are finally coming to a head as the clock has pretty much run out with merely 3 days to go before draft night. Ultimately, it is inevitable when a decision of this magnitude is about to go down.

We have already heard John Lynch prefers Trey Lance. The latest story now is Chris Simms is saying Adam Peters loves Trey Lance too. Well, the picture is really becoming quite apparent. It is Kyle Shanahan vs pretty much the rest of the organization, in particular the front office.

It sounds to me the leaks are put out there for a couple of reasons: 1) to make known to the whole world that neither Lynch or Peters or basically the entire front office wants anything to do with such a lame move in drafting Mac Jones as to prevent their own reputations and careers from being tainted and 2) just perhaps it could put some public pressure on Shanahan not to commit such a monumental mistake (not that he will care much given how arrogant he is).

"If" this is all true, then we really could be looking at Mac Jones in being the pick if Shanahan puts his foot down. I certainly hope that wont be the case. Personally, I would go with an "expect the worst and hope for the best" approach in looking ahead to Thursday night.

So everbody losing their minds because of the presser?
Kyle and John knew which questions would be thrown at them. And I am totally sure they did not want to give a hint who they pick. Why now if they did everything to hide it until now?
So, you tell me all the words, all the "body language" everyone is reading between the lines, came spontaniously?

Nah.
Lance it is. I rather see what Schefter said and how Simms latest turnaround fits into the picture.
They said they are totally aware of the faithful hating the idea of jones being the pick, and I bet so is Jed.
I for my part wont stop to remember him until the pick is in, I do not believe one second that the opinion of the fanbase is not considered even a little bit.
Thats football, thats entertainment. Thats all about money for Jed. Just think about the jerseys which would be sold for Fields or Lance compared to Jones.

He also said, if the top 2 play out as expected, they could end up getting their favorite one. I just can't believe he could like Jones over Lawrence and Wilson.

Bro you know who our coach is? In a draft that had Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, CJ Beathard was his favorite one

Believe me, I know that. I guess, I refuse to believe he can make the same mistake twice. I am choosing to believe Shanahan values plenty starts in college and I think he said he liked how CJ "battled adversity" if that's the case. He will like Fields too!
Shanahan said - he'd have draft Josh Rosen if he had declared for the 2017 draft.

Shanahan shouldn't be allowed to even chime in when it comes to drafting guys.

Interesting theory that Lynch is the one throwing out Lance's name because that's who he wants. If Kyle is outnumbered in the decision then I wish he'd come around to it but I doubt it. Just makes you wonder if there's tension and what the blowback will do to Kyle and John's working relationship if Kyle picks the guy nobody wants and it flops. It immediately made me think of Baalke/Harbaugh power grab

He said that about Josh Allen.
The people that want to mentally prepare for Jones to be the pick and not get their hopes up are the ones reading into the presser that Jones is the pick.

Most of the questions were veiled questions about Mac Jones to see if they could get Shanahan or Lynch to tip their hands about who they are picking and they saw right through it and gave a bunch of vague non answers.

Saying they don't care if the fans hate the pick or not is pretty much the answer you're going to get from every GM and coach in the league. If they are picking a guy they believe in than they know if the guy performs like they are counting on the fans might hate the pick today but will be cheering it on if he's a success.

Jed feels the same way but I'm sure he's hoping Kyle picks Fields or Lance for financial reasons. If Jones is the pick it's going to be really tough to sell and market him to fans. The fanbase that actually wants him is small but most of the fanbase are going to begrudgingly cheer him on and hope for the best because they don't have a choice. I'd be curious to see his jersey sales if he's the pick because I imagine they are going to be low for a QB drafted 3rd overall and I don't think Kittle will have to worry about his jersey sale numbers being overtaken.

The word is 60/40 Mac Jones.

Also, I don't think there is any chance of a power grab because Shanahan's position is simply too secure. I get the sense Jed loves the guy. Whereas Lynch on the other hand is another story. Remember he never got his extension until much later after Shanny got his? Jed probably thinks Lynch is totally expendable especially given Lynch never came from a front office background. But, even so I don't think either he, Peters or the entire front office wants to look completely stupid in picking Jones. So, the least they could do is kind of rebel in the quiet and feed out leaks in clarifying on their own stance/choice of prospect, basically saying none of them wanted Mac Jones, but it was out of their hands.

It was Lynch's smile for me. But it might just mean, "Wait till Thursday, we'll show you."

Kyle said they are looking for a mutation of Drew Brees and Lamar Jackson!
