As long as he ends up in the right situation (e.g., HERE).

No kidding. I can't believe we have an opportunity for a Rodgers / Mahomes situation here and we're going to blow it on a Kirk Cousins clone
Honestly though, this sounds like Jones is the pick:

"If you were excited about getting one of these guys at 12, you should be excited about getting one at three. It's about whether you get one. So, let us go through the process — we're going to get a good one. Yeah, I wish I could take that anxiety away from people, but that's because people get excited."

How do you know? LOL. People didn't know Mahomes was Mahomes, or knew Rodgers was going to be any good. We have a Tom Brady/Drew Brees opportunity in Mac Jones.

It does indeed.

We don't know. Of course not. But what we do know is that we have a pretty unique landing spot situation for a rookie, they can conceivably come in and win right away. We don't know who good Lance (or Fields) can be, but I suspect it's similar to lots of other dual-threat QBs that have had success early too.

Fields played in what is essentially a run and shoot offense. Lance dictated protections every pass and didn't look at the sideline to wait for the coaches to read the defense for him.

Don't get me wrong; I LOVE Fields. But Shanahan wants a guy that he doesn't have the train the basics to.

Thats what was said about Justin Herbert as well.

The Chargers aren't the 49ers. Kyle Shanahan has a certain history. He picked Beathard for the system. He TRADED UP for Beathard because of the system.

Our FO needs to have a TL card filled out for the pick then swap it at the last second!!!!

I've watched every snap multiple times. I get the Kap vibes but I'm not saying he is kap. He's definitely better than he ever was - hopefully.

Kaepernick gave zero f's about improving as a passer. After he ran all over the Packers, he seemingly became convinced that he could do that to every team. Steve Young called it when he said that Kaepernick works extremely hard, but only at the stuff he is already good at.

I am impressed that Lance is already working with a wide variety of passing coaches including Tom House. That initiative is huge from such a young player. He can't be accused of not putting the work in and in the areas that he needs it most.

If we drafted him, I'd be expecting Colin Kaepernick 2. Having a strong arm and speed isn't enough in the NFL.

Well, except a Kap who can throw with touch, can run people over, who doesn't have a Gumby slow motion release, who did pro-style concepts in college instead of the pistol, and who is extremely advanced for a rookie at reading defenses pre-snap and making protection calls and audibles.

Come on, this is such a lazy take. How many games of Lance have you even watched?

Kap??? This person doesn't know what he's looking at. Seriously

I really liked Kap and think he got did dirty, but Lance coming out is sooooo much better than Kap
Kaep's career was interrupted. He should be left out of comparisons for the most part due to the politics that kept him out of continuation.

It does - but at the same time - with more time to process - I can see that they haven't reached the final decision and are considering Jones and Lance - and don't like the idea that fans are questioning their process and how they can even consider Mac Jones at 12.

I do think that's a really ridiculous statement that if you like someone at 12 - you should like them at 3. Ppl liked Mac Jones at 12 bc they knew Fields and Lance will be gone and we will have a 1st round pick next year and the year after. It's like saying - if you like a car at 30K - you should like the same car at 60k. lol no - who the f**k likes to overpay for things?!?!?!?!

He had limitations that he did nothing to improve upon. Limitations that many others pointed out repeatedly for years. He just wasn't interested. He wanted to run and gun and try to push the clock back to 2012 but the league had already caught up to him.

The worst thing a QB can do is stagnate. Mechanics fall apart when neglected. Footwork becomes less consistent. It's why guys like Brady and Brees worked with passing coaches throughout their entire careers. If you're not getting better, you're getting worse.

The good thing with this young crop of QBs is that all these guys seem to recognize the need to keep improving in those crucial areas. Seeing Lance work with Beck and House after working with other passing coaches shows drive and a desire to learn as much as he can from as many different people as possible.

That's a recipe for mediocrity for pretty much everyone - not just at work - but in life.

They've had a month to process since they made the trade. Sure hope it's just an elaborate smokescreen.

That can be applied to any of the three guys though.

Some won't like Mac at 3 because he's limited physically.
Some won't like Fields at 3 because he doesn't process quick enough.
Some won't like Lance at 3 because he's too raw.

To an extent, but not when you are comparing where they are as rookie prospects. Moreover, the people who've made the comparison are making extremely simplified takes that don't stand up to scrutiny at all. They don't play the same way. Lance is coming from a pro-style system, under center, doing play-action, reading defenses and making pre-snap protection calls. Kap came from the state of the art pistol system that emphasized athleticism and reaction, rather than pre-snap planning and adjustments. Not to mention their releases are completely different, their mobility is completely different, and so on.

It's just not a good comp if you go deeper than the most broad strokes.
