I honestly even like Lance more than Wilson, higuer ceiling. If the Jets are smart they'd take Justin Fields in a heartbeat, but they are the Jets. In case Fields is gone, I'd pick Lance and redshirt him praying Jimmy doesn't go down early again. Lance will bust if he is thrown when he's not ready.

Agreed. I'm not expecting that but would be thoroughly impressed.

What are his negatives? His lack of playing time and snaps does have me concerned. How is his footwork, decision making, and arm strength? Does he come with a good foundation and solid mechanics or is he robotic like Kap?

That's why I think it's silly to sit him for two years. Give him the reps in training camp and start the kid.

He has spent the last year working on what I'm about to say here, so a lot of it may already be improved.
His foundation is hit or miss on tape. His throwing mechanics need work. He has a loop and dip in his motion, and his release point can get excessively high away from his body at times--like a 12 o'clock release, which can diminish his velocity. His footwork, again, can get sloppy at times. He doesn't consistently get depth at the top of his drops, and his feet aren't always married to his eyes, which means he'll see an open receiver but not be in a position to throw the ball. I think the biggest flaw is that there are some concerning moments on tape where I'm not sure he sees the field well. The problem is there isn't a lot to go on, so a lot of this is going to be answered at the NFL level.
His arm strength is fantastic. I want to say it's elite with mechanical improvements.

Lance said on Rich Eisen today that he's had no zoom meetings recently including the 49ers. Hasn't heard from the last few days.

Rapoport said SF isn't telling the prospect they will be the pick until they actually make the pick...really f**king with us until the last minute

I wouldn't read too much into it. Aren't they limited to 5 Zoom meetings per prospect? What is they reached that limit a while ago?

So we potentially gave up a s**t ton for a guy with little tape that needs serious work?
Comparing him to Jones…
Aside from a stronger arm and raw athleticism, what does Lance have over Jones?

Meh you could see the change in his mechanics over the past 5 months. Kid was 19 yrs old when people were looking at his film. He's finally got with a QB coach...he's basically a ball of clay. High end football IQ for his age too. Called protections, got half the play at the LOS then made adjustments based on the coverage. Stuff most college kids don't do.
He's running the same offense we run for the most part.

I'd say he's further along than Josh Allen coming out of college

Aside from those traits, playing in a traditional Pro-style offense from under center, running boot action, turning his back to the defense, and calling protections would be the things Trey Lance has over Mac Jones.
My stance from early on with Lance is that he's the biggest boom-or-bust pick in the draft. If you told me in 4 years he's an elite QB, I can believe it; Conversely, if you told me he's out of the league in 4 years, I can also believe it.
