Great choice. The only game he was able to play in 2020 and he couldn't practice because he had to quarantine for 10 days since his roommate tested positive for COVID. I watched Field's NorthWestern game to evaluate him and he's a 5th round pick. Dude is terrible threw for 114 yards.

That was a bad game. Did you watch any others? There's a ton of good film. If I judged Fields solely based on his Northwestern game I would think he sucks.

I have. He has some nice throws and I can see the possibility of him being very good. But it's a huge gamble especially with the 3rd pick.

Can someone show me some timed short and intermediate thrown from him? All ive seen are bombs to open recievers or off balance throws, or he's making kaep like runs. I don't need the madden stuff. Like pioli said, i need to see substance, not sizzle.

Just go watch a game dude

All these guys are a huge gamble with the 3rd pick. Mac is probably the most pro-ready...key word "probably"...that doesn't mean he'll be better than Fields or Lance in year 1 or in year 5 though.

The draft is always a crapshoot. Projecting who a player is today vs who they will be in 3 years and how their game will translate to the NFL has always been more art than science.

Yeah if people actually read up on the glorified scrimmage they'd realize that game has no meaningful impact on what he is.

go watch the 2019 tape...

I don't even know why Mac is considered the most pro-ready?

I know. I was just trying to make the point that the argument for Jones is that he's pro-ready. But there's obviously no guarantee of that.

I think the guy who plays the best in year 1 will probably have a lot to do with who drafts him and how good their organization is...Personally, I'd bet on whoever the Niners draft having the best rookie year out of the 3 candidates we're looking at.

I think landing spot is critical for success, which is why I believe whomever goes to the Jets has the highest chance to bust. It's nothing against whomever that selection is though (likely Wilson).

Understanding that, if you believe in the 49ers team and organization you should want upside, not the safe pick.

If it's not Fields then it HAS to be Lance. I don't care if Kyle is playing the "if you liked him at 12 you should like him at 3" BS card, you're giving up a LOT to get this guy. I just can't imagine Kyle's pulse on the league is that bad that he takes the guy almost everyone has as the 5th QB at #3 with that trade up. It's one thing to "reach" for a guy you think fits perfectly, it's another thing all together to trade a ton of draft capital to get to that spot to do it.

It's Fields or Lance...or we have a bigger problem than QB imo.

This won't be the 1st time Shanahan overruled his personnel department if he goes with Jones. That's not good. Assuming the reports of the schism are true.

yeah! see Beathard, Pettis, and that running back I can't remember who never played one game in the NFL!

Joe Williams. When Kyle pounds the table for someone... run.. reminds me of Al Davis, always smarter than everyone in the room.

To me, that's an irresponsible statement by Shefty. To actually believe SF doesn't know who they are drafting...please.

Hmmmm this got me thinking it's trey lance. If they were truly undecided for a while then I think they ended up going with Lance. Probably a lot more Ready to play now than they thought plus the upside of arm strength and mobility.

also a huge gamble to take McKorkle Jones who has the lowest ceiling of any QB, and passing on the guy (Lance) who has the highest upside and will be a superstar!
