Only he's doesn't need 2/3 yrs that's a straight up b******t take. Kid is more pro-ready then Josh Allen and Mahomes.

if he stayed a yr he would be the #1 pick in 2022...SF gets him a yr early and your boy Jimmy gets one last shot in SF to build up trade stock and a new contract for himself. Win/win
If you look a at Mahomes, and take Trey Lance, Shanahan deserves to be screwed. I don't think he will go by the hype.
Mahomes is special, and Alex is a decent guy, you can't replicate those factors just because you keep wanting it to happen.

This is hilariously wrong. Trey's processor is one of his biggest concerns. We discussed it way back in the thread. He has too many instances on tape where he doesn't see the field well.

I'll tell what Mac can make: this one. He won't miss a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open hitch route in front of his face. For whatever inexplicable reason, Trey opts to pass on the wide-open hitch to his TE and goes to the wide side of a field for significantly harder throw, a worse option and what would be a 100% INT in the NFL. These are the type of plays that are red flags. Is he seeing the field well? I'm not sure.

Cover 3. That's pretty obvious. But Trey Lance never even bothers to try to move the centerfield safety after the PA. He stares down the seam route from the jump. I don't have access to the all-22, but I've seen these plays before from that angle. They're significantly worse. I've got more red flag plays. Why doesn't anyone cover them?

Trey Lance was rarely under pressure, so this one is a bit alarming. UCA blitz 0. Where's your hot? Why are you looking left? His hot is the shallow route coming from the right. Why are you looking to the opposite side? Dude drops his eyes under pressure and just bails...

Response: "He was just a young, young puppy, so what if he plays like Ray Charles out on the field, he took snaps under center AND he played with a fullback!"

Lance has both the biggest upside in this draft and the biggest odds of being largely non-functional at the NFL level due to his accuracy issues and struggles reading even subpar defenses at the FCS level.

Fields has very similar upside but also a higher floor. I think Mac Jones at worst has a Ryan Fitzpatrick sort of arc but Lance to me is the guy that can be a Bortles or Trubisky where by the end of his rookie contract you'd be happy if he can just hold down a backup gig.

I feel like I say this on here all the time, but there's film of Mac Jones repeatedly throwing into double coverage (e.g. vs. Kentucky), throwing check downs prematurely (e.g. vs. Arkansas), etc. (I'd post clips if I could but I'm a luddite and don't know how). No QB in this draft "processes" perfectly. If a couple missed reads count as "red flags", then the Niners shouldn't draft any of these guys.
I still remember when we were the betting favorite to land Stafffuuurd and that worked out well

How can you say he is pro ready? Just because he called some plays at the line and rana similar shanahan offense? He was a one read and get the ball out guy. Nothing I have ever read or seen from him would indicate that he's ready. You're going to throw him in and we will have a running qb ala lamar and it will stunt his growth as a pocket passer. The only way I'd be satisfied with this pick is if they give him the proper time to develop. And that's throwing 2 or 3 years away of a championship window. At least fields and jones can start day 1. This roster can't wait.

So if we draft Lance, he won't even play until we have another 1st round pick? Pass. I thought the whole point behind moving up was to have a less expensive QB while we still have a Super Bowl roster. Sitting him for 2 years defeats the purpose.

The SB window is not "closing", it'll stay wide open as long as you have a good or great QB in the room and the FO is good.

Everyone throws this term around but I dont think this is a super bowl team. Not right now anyway. Compare now to 2019. We arent better. I think we are a solid playoff contender though if things go right. We havent replaced Buckner or Dee Ford or Sherman or even Kwon Alexander. nor do we know what Bosa is gonna look like year 1 after that acl. Is Jimmy gonna be on the team or a rookie? Is the new d-coordinator gonna be ready? Too many unknowns to be talking super bowl contention. I need to see how we look first!

What is this based off of? Allen was a two year starter at Wyoming playing in the exact same offense. The main difference is that Allen played with crap talent and NDSU without Lance, Jabril Cox and other starters lost to the transfer portal has gone 6-2 and in the playoffs once more.
You try to trade for Aaron Rodgers and Watson but you draft a kid whos not old enough to drink, that needs to sit a year or 2 before even being considered a top QB on any NFL team let alone under Shanahan when Justin Fields is available? Lol b******t

Josh Allen also only completed 56% of his passes in his final season and only threw for about 150 yards a game. He was a major project with terrible accuracy.

He had a game in his final year where he was 9/24 (about 36%) for 60 yards. That wasn't even his worst game.

So the hope is that Lance does a complete 180 like Allen did?

Maybe, but you were arguing that Lance wasn't more pro-ready than Josh Allen, but Allen was a much harder projection and was more raw even though he played more.
