I wrote the above before I watched that cut up, it doesn't give the context of the game, and I think I'm only now understanding why, you need to watch him last year to see it.
NDSU's entire offense revolves around the threat of Lance running, I think Arkansas realised early that they didn't want to do that in this game. Subsequently the RB's were stuffed nearly every time and the WR's faced more man than ever before.
Then you look at Lance himself, he's been working on his throwing motion and that was the first he used it in a game.
The 2nd half they reverted to type a bit and he looked better, the drop on the beautiful TD bomb was criminal.
Do you write that game off completely? No, but you shouldn't use it as his main body of work, just because it's the most recent.

"I think Trey's more ready than anybody else in this class." 👀

What can NFL teams hope to expect with "inexperienced" QBs like Trey Lance & Justin Fields?
🎙️@Quincy_Avery joins @dpbrugler & @LanceZierlein to shed some light on the 2021 QB class.

An odd take, I'd be interested to hear his whole thought process

Toss in the fact that ONE game was a glorify practice game, with a team that had no idea if they were gonna have a full season, tons of scouts at one game, not a ton of time to practice etc etc.
Tossing out one game as some end all be all is dumb. I remember Lawrence having a couple trash games at the beginning of last yr...it happens. Tools and drive are there IMO.

It's all we have to go off of, which is part of the issue with Lance.
Bringing up Trevor Lawrence makes zero sense. Trevor started over 40 games in college. A bad game or two doesn't negate a massively successful body of work.
NFL bust trashbin is littered with dudes drafted for their tools. How are you qualifying drive? Through posts on social media or anecdotes from coaches? Another terrible assessment. Nobody knows how bad these dude want to be great until they're in an NFL building. That's one of the main reasons most QB prospects will bust. You can't qualify that from the outside.

We have a full season of football from 2019, not just one game that was a glorified practice. Dude still put 300 total yards a 4 TDs on the board and won the game for them end of the day....if he didn't play in some pointless game, would your assessment be different?
Lawrence had more then one s**tty game, I remember people calling him out over it. All these QBs had some poor games, even the great Mac Jones vs Auburn last yr in their L. Handful of WTF throws.
A huge part of drafting is getting a prospect with the best tools that you can mold into what you want.... You should have a coaching staff and roster around the player that can help them develop and get to their ceiling. Most players with elite traits that fail are put in f**king awful situations and have poor coaching....drive also plays a massive part. It's a reason why so many highly drafted QBs fail. They go to awful teams drafting at the top.
All I've read on the kid is his he loves football, he's smart, and yes have drive to be the best. What else can you go by? How's that a terrible assessment? you're throwing your assessment into one game. who does that?

I'm throwing my assessment into one game? No, I'm assessing one game, which is all we have to evaluate from 2020.
Nobody knows if any of these dudes have the drive to succeed. There are things we can infer and try to extrapolate on, but nothing can be asserted. That's why most of these QB prospects will bust. You can't qualify the desire to be great.

All I'm saying is that's one game....with some very weird context based around it. If he went out and balled I don't think it would have changed my stance on him either way.
As far or drive, he's been working on his throwing motion all season without games....Every Friday before games, he was putting together a passing meeting with his team going over their 230 plays. Kid is only 20, I've read/heard nothing to say drive is a problem.
I'll tell ya what he's not doing, driving around with a loaded gun, even when your team has a "no gun" policy

I got my AR15 right next to me as I type this. Who am I to judge?
Seriously, I just hate the unknown with Trey Lance, which for me stems around his small body of work. And I'm not even necessarily worried about the games started. The diminutive 318 pass attempts is the most concerning thing to me. I love the tools. I love seeing that he's working. I just wish there was more to watch.
Ultimately, it's a lot more likely that all of the QBs in the draft bust than they all succeed, and that's the most frustrating thing about the process.
