No no lol

I don't think there's a guy in here who's opinion I value more...just disagree a little here.

Seriously, I just hate the unknown with Trey Lance, which for me stems around his small body of work. And I'm not even necessarily worried about the games started. The diminutive 318 pass attempts is the most concerning thing to me. I love the tools. I love seeing that he's working. I just wish there was more to watch.

Ultimately, it's a lot more likely that all of the QBs in the draft bust than they all succeed, and that's the most frustrating thing about the process.

haha well that's all good for you...it's more the situation of him being told to not have that, and still did.

I get the body of work, but if the plan is to play Jimmy regardless (which kinda seems like what's gonna happen) I got no problem throwing him as the backup for a yr and learning everything.

we will see

I had a listen to the whole interview, its about the first 10 mins and well worth a listen. I mean he's obviously pumping guys he worked with, but there was still some great stuff you can't get elsewhere.

Lance calling his own protections and holding his own passing game meetings as a Freshman! Just unbelievable.

If Lance is as attuned as this guy says I'm even more on board.

I missed the conservative nature of the NDSU offense, it really makes sense, you get guys like Phil Simms spouting that he doesn't make tight window throws after watching one game, when you've probably got a coach telling him to run over putting the ball in danger.

Yup it all makes sense.

If the Niners keep Jimmy, I don't see the wisdom in taking Lance at #12. Not when you could possibly get a game-changer like TE Pitts, tremendously versatile OL in Slater, Edge in Phillips, top CB in Surtain or any number of other players. I agree they need to draft a QB...but not at the expense of more pressing needs. Whomever you take in the 1st rd should be a starter...and Lance just wouldn't be that, so for me it makes no sense to draft him there.

Makes no sense? Did the Chiefs think that with Patrick Mahomes?

Your team building theory is so short sighted, a franchise QB trumps almost everything, so if you think he can be that you don't care if it'll take a year or two.

I love Pitts and would draft him over almost anyone, would be so torn choosing between them.

I wish I knew where I could find a career pass attempts from under center stat for all the prospects this year. Would not be surprised if Lance has the most of all the top guys.

That's interesting, Zach Wilson would be higher, but Fields might well be number 2
This is the best Trey Lance eval that I've seen by a former NFL QB and coach. He covers the good, bad, and subjective. I highly recommend watching the entire thing.

Cheers Hero, I will have a watch, but I think I'm sold on staying pat at #12, which has more to do with the fact I think Jimmy still can show us he's the guy.

At #12 my order of preference is Pitts and then Lance. Pitts to go all in with Jimmy, or Lance as the perfect backup slash groom.

If he looks like Mahomes did, put him in and trade Jimmy, if not he stays as a backup for 4 years before trading him.

The issue for me is Jimmy has one more yr left after 2021....if he's just meh as a QB (with the thought of injuries lingering in the back of everyone's mind) what are you gonna do in 2022?

like you said we can't be shortsighted with team building...they could very well be in the same situation as this yr and not have have a top 12 pick. We gonna walk out Jimmy again? Are they gonna commit to Jimmy for another 4/5 yrs?

I love Pitts and Slater (if there) BUT have a plan for QB. I think we have 4 top end prospects and should take advantage of that...Imo I will be shocked if SF actually does go QB, they've seemed to be more shortsighted in team building

I don't get where this narrative comes from, Jimmy has never been meh, he's either won or been injured.

However if we decide he isn't the guy and have Lance, we put him in and cut or trade Jimmy.

If we went for Pitts then we'd need to add to a QB next year, Dak is likely to be available, Matt Ryan may be as a bridge and who knows who else.

We'd also have our 1st round pick which we definitely wouldn't if we trade up this year.

IMO he was okay in 2019, he had a margin error the size of the grand canyon. Bottom of the league in AYTS, IAY, and ALEX score and yet one of the highest INT %. So basically he was throwing it shorter than a good portion of the league and still one of the highest in turning the ball over. No one calls Case Keenum a great QB, yet they had identical stats the yr he almost got Minn to the SB. I think Jimmy is an avg starting QB in the NFL, which is fine if the rest of the roster is stacked top to bottom.

I do understand he ran the offense that Kyle has in place for him. I also don't think that was the optimal offense the wants to run. And yes injuries play a part for sure, he hasn't been able to stay healthy his whole career thus far. He's a good bridge QB.

Anyway I don't want to make this another Jimmy vs the world thing. I just think they need to have a legit plan at QB beyond 2021.

Just restructure Jimmy this yr and throw Lance behind him. IF Jimmy get's hurt or isn't playing to the level you want, see what the rookie can do. If Jimmy balls out trade him, if not cut him in 2022 and eat some DM. I mean Jimmy very well might welcome a restructure to remove a yr of mid range pay in 2022 (with no GTD cash) in hope to either be a FA or get a much bigger extension sooner.

I want no part of a then 36 yr old Matt Ryan who isn't gonna play for chump change either....SF will probably have to give up more draft picks to get a top shelf rookie QB in 2022 because we're all assuming they play better than this last season.

Also why do they have to trade a future 1st to move up a couple spots? I mean who cares anyway...they're gonna have to use future first next yr and 2023 to move up (probably more) if they go that route. I doubt they're drafting top 12 AND if so it's because we didn't take care of the QB position anyway
