Gonna be happy if the 9ers land either Fields, Wilson or Lance. They can't go wrong. I just hope none have off the field issues or any attitude problems.

Totally agree with all of this

It'll probably require trading up to accomplish, but I'm on board.

I disagree with a lot of Zuerlin's write up above, but hey I don't get paid to do it.

You guys are right though, he's an excellent ball of clay for a good coaching staff, and you don't get much better than ours.

If anyone gets The Athletic I recommend the Podcast with Burglar & Zierlein.

latest pod they talk about QB/TE/WR

30 mins in they talk about Lance and it's pretty interesting...they have more inside info on these guys.

They think he's one of the most mentally prepared QBs in this class based on what NDST asked him to do and how he prepared every week.

worth a listen (also very high on Fields).

As for Jones vs Lance, it's a tough call for me because physical attributes and mental attributes/vision are both necessary to be great.

The main issue for me is cost. I suspect Lance will cost more to move up to get. Jones might even be there at 12.

But Lance is definitely more of a project, and Jimmy, frankly, is barely serviceable. However, I have so little faith in Jimmy that I feel that Lance right out of the box will not be much of a down grade. Lance is fully capable of handing the ball of or throwing six yards behind the line of scrimmage. Moreover, on "no read" play-action passes, Lance will be able to threaten deep. I wouldn't trust him on passes where a dee zone in a cloud coverage can run across the field and snatch it, but he can throw streaks off of play-action and deep crosses (as long as that ball is near the sideline to minimize his rookie-compounded lack of vision from getting him picked off). And when the play breaks down? Not even close who I'd want out there.

So if I preferred Lance and he was there I wouldn't hesitate. How much more worse than Jimmy could be be? Only on the drop back passing game would our offense regress, and to be frank, it wouldn't be by much.

Why? Because Jimmy is not that good and never has been.

Ah man, couldn't be further from you with Jimmy, if he's as bad as you say there's no chance we'd have got to the Superbowl.

If you're all the way out on the injuries I'd understand, but they were pretty freaky.

I honestly have no idea who goes higher between Mac & Lance, I bet there's huge division in within the meeting rooms.

I can only see the Panthers or Falcons in a trade down taking Lance before us, but I bet the Panthers take Mac having coached him at the Senior bowl.

Here's why it's true: go compare Jimmy running play-action versus not.

Jimmy is not a horrible QB. He's just a low end starter. With Kyle calling plays, and ELITE defense and an ELITE running game, that's enough to get you to the Super Bowl.

And then on third and five in the red zone (twice!), when Jimmy had no play-action threat to make things harder on the defense and simplify his reads, he locked on to a target and threw a ball short of the first down while other targets were wide open for a first down. That's 8 points in a game we were up by 10 in the 4th quarter. And that's 8 points a top 15 QB would have gotten for us. Hell, that's 8 points a MOBILE QB would have gotten for us (don't get me wrong: I'm not one of those "mobil QB or bust" guys, but this is a Trey Lance thread). Trey Lance picks up both of those first downs with his legs. Mac Jones picks both up by seeing the coverage better.

So yeah, I don't think the offense would drop much with Lance instead of Jimmy. Kyle is already calling plays to protect Jimmy. He can do the same for Lance.

Add me to the gang bang! We will probably only need to trade down to pick number seven to get one of the top 4 quarterbacks which wouldn't cost a ton and be worth it.

Maybe wont need to at all. I think it depends on Carolina. If they fall in love with Mac Jones (which wouldnt shock me) then Lance could be there at 12. In fact, I could see a scenario where the Niners choose between Lance and Slater.

1) Jags Lawrence
2) Jets Wilson
3) Miami Chase
4) Atlanta Fields
5) Cincy Sewell
6) Phil Pitts
7) Det Smith
8) Car Jones
9) Denv Farley
10 Dall Surtain
11) NY Waddle
12) SF Lance or Slater

Lol, no way does Lance fall to #12.

Denver will take at QB for sure. No chance they're sold on Locke

I have seen plenty of mocks from people who do it for a living with Lance falling to 12. Like I said in my post I think Carolina is the key. Will they like Jones or Lance more? Lance has obvious skills but he is so inexperienced and will not help a team for at least 2 years. We shall see.

I completely disagree. CB is a huge need for them and I doubt they go QB

Albright has said they're rolling with Lock for another yr, unless they manage to get Watson.
My opinion is Detroit is the target for a trade because you need to get in front of Carolina if you want Lance. IF you wait until Carolina picks you might as well stay at 12 because I don't see Denver, Dallas or NY picking a QB.
