It was a good watch, no dip in his back leg which is what I wanted to see. The drive on the ball is impressive, but you can see that in every game he's ever played.

I also liked that he didn't get to high or low on misses or big time throws, just stayed focused.

Shouldn't affect his draft stock, the risks remain, I still expect him to be available to us at 12.

Can't help but some some Kaepernick in this kid...tall, rangy, has great arm, feet and runs instinctively. The talent's there...he simply needs more reps.

He doesn't look like Kap at all when he's throwing a football...

I think the dip started coming back towards the end. Understandable, form always slips as you get tired doing anything. I hope he continues to improve on that. Other than that, he looked good and I'm still a fan of his.

He won't be available at 12. If you want to draft this kid you better trade up to 3 in front of Atlanta because there gonna probably take him at 4.

Let them take him at 4 then. I like Lance and I would like him to be our pick(since that would mean Kyle likes what he sees) but I also think there's too much bust potential to make that move for us.

I hope Fields slides and we jump on taking him. I'm still not understanding how the hell he's falling off the way people are reporting.

Kind of reminds me of how Herbert and Joey Bosa were both being talked about in their respective drafts and they got taken high anyways(ironically by the same team)

There's no way you can move up for him, especially not that high. It might remind you of other draft situations, but it really isn't.

A RS Sophomore QB declaring is rare, one who only played 1 game in year 2 is unprecedented. Factor in that he played FCS and never faced a power 5 team, and you have a complete unicorn.

It's one things for draft "scouts" to rave about the potential, but NFL GM's are first and foremost risk managers, they will be acutely aware of not only the liability, but the opportunity cost of missing out on others to chase this unicorn.

I can't see him going above any of the other 1st round QB's for that reason, and yes I'm including Mac Jones.

Sorry, I read that wrong, you mean Fields' situation, and yeah that does make sense. Kid is a top 5 prospect in every draft class.

Rewatching his Pro Day. Lance's feet look cleaner and less lazy. The fact that he basically had the entire year to focus on improving his mechanics is a big deal. I still think he's getting a bit long in his release, but hey, what the hell do I know? He also didn't seem to be dipping or if he did it was ever so slightly.

Personally, I like Trey Lance a bit more than Justin Fields. I just feel like he's more fluid and natural as a thrower, and his eyes and processing are much quicker than Fields. People want to attribute Fields' slow processing to the Ohio State offense. That's fine, but it's still there on tape. Overall, Trey Lance is very nice. He's not Zach Wilson, but he's nice.

I'm struggling with Lance vs Fields, I like that I can clearly see Lance's progression arc, but I do feel that it might be longer. I think even after his year on the bench learning, he may still come in and play like a rookie.

I'm sold that Fields can play a bit of backyard ball and get it done using his legs until he is up to NFL speed.

I am confident that by year 3, both are outstanding.

I'm also torn with Zach Wilson, I love his natural throwing motion, I hate his lack of pre-snap blitz recognition and his affinity to play hero ball.

I think he plays the earliest and I think he might be a turnover machine. Funny thing is that I think he'll look like Darnold early!

That's fine for the Jets as they won't be ready until Zach is anyway, but I'm not sure we should entertain a huge trade up.

I see their ceilings very similarly.

Mac Jones on the other hand I can see a clear path to a pretty good QB, he could be great if he improves his arm strength, but I just have doubts of him accessing all areas of the field, I'm not calling any deep outs and I'd be wary about smash concepts, basically the same issues we currently have with Jimmy.

My conclusion is that I'm waiting, I may trade up using just my 1st from next year (maybe even asking for a 4th back) but I don't want to shift multiple picks for any of them, one should last to 12, and if they don't a different stud will be.

I have to agree, I think at this point I'm more team Lance than fields.

Would love either.
McRob was just asked if he had any gunslinger in him, since he only threw one pic his entire college career. He said no. He likened him to Alex Smith, and said that he played with a young Alex Smith, and that Alex at times held the team back. He was also asked if that gunslinger mentality can be tought, and he again said no.

OMG, I don't want to start this rant all over again.

Kyle has said he'd rather have someone that needs to be dialed back than someone that won't let it rip.

We're not getting Lance.

I'll take Fields with Kyle over Lance. He's a gamer and showed it vs better competition. If Fields gets a chance to clean things up just like Lance did I'm confident he can do just that.

still I'd be surprised if either was there at 12 and I just don't see us moving up but we'll see what happens.
Lots of hype post Pro Day... throwing scripted routes and without any pass rush or defense...meh. Not what I value in the eval process.

I love potential and a cannon arm as much as anyone, but I'd rather have Fields or Mac Jones. Lance's hit & miss accuracy concerns me, some poor reads & field vision, and low % completion for contested catches.

Not as worried about his footwork which I think can be cleaned up. But not every big athletic prospect learns to develop that accuracy, field vision, instincts, etc... in fact many don't.

He sounds like a great kid with a monster work ethic which honestly might matter the most (and the system he gets into). So I'll root hard for him if he comes to the 49ers but not my preferred QB.

This breakdown was really good and objective. Chris Simms' breakdown also worth listening to.

Agree and I think his size, arm strength and ball security will land him in the top-10. During the Pro Day they mentioned that Lance has been blowing teams away in the interviews.

Essentially all you can hit him on is level of competition and amount of games played. Having Wentz coming before him recently should ease some of those concerns a bit. Maybe Wentz had a little more arm strength, but Lance has a great arm, is far more mobile, and is significantly better taking care of the ball. He comes across as humble, charismatic, and intelligent. There's a lot to like.

He was a little less accurate throwing to the right, but solid showing from him.

Field is a one read QB - if the first guy is not open, he takes off.
