But I gotta say, I'm hesitant on any player who opted out this year. I'm only 32 but I'm as old school as they come. Especially in this case where he could've made Miami as good as they've been in 15 years. I want guys who live and breath football and who are good teammates. Not guys looking to preserve themselves for the next contract.
I get what you're saying but opting out can also be Covid related. A lot of dudes did it back in august when people really had no clue what was happening in sports.

Love the player and would be totally on board with getting him, but we've got other problems. If by some miracle, Lynch (and really Paraag) can bring back Verrett, Sherman, and Williams and and 4 of the QBs have been drafted, Rousseau is in play for me. Hoping for an edge rusher on either day 1 or 2.

6 games ago some Miami fans told me the other #15 would challenge Rousseau as the Top Edge in this draft and I told them they're crazy.
Doesn't look so crazy with Phillips' last 3-4 games though. Just building and building. Going to be a fun debate throughout the Spring.

Give Kocurek this elite piece of clay to mold and we'll have the best edge rushing duo in the league for years to come.

His hands are already full with Kinlaw.
We should steer clear of 1) injured players 2) projects.
We need healthy, plug-and-play, day-1 starters--a lot of them. This roster is going to get butchered in a few months.

No more projects please. Rousseau is a converted safety that won pretty much exclusively with his athleticism. The more I've gone back and watched of him, the less impressed I've become. To me he's the fourth or fifth best edge rusher in this class because he's unable to win in any other way but trying to out-athlete the OL which has been the identifier for numerous NFL busts, guys that were crazy athletes in college but never developed enough technically for their athleticism to translate to the NFL level. I've seen this guy just straight up run head-on into OL far too many times. No plan, he just runs into a wall and gets erased from the play altogether.
He might turn out to be a good pro with some time and coaching but right now he reminds me way too much of Vic Beasley, although Beasley was significantly more polished as a pass rusher. Dude gives me a lot of Vernon Gholston type vibes too. He's super athletic but that alone just isn't getting it done.

Wish this kid would've played this year, feels like an unknown and more of a hope he becomes what he showed in 1 yr.

True true... I just cannot help but look at his full potential, he has all the tools to be an elite player if mold correctly.

I wouldn't mind him at 12. Get that speed off the edge

Speed is about all he has to offer. He's the anti-Bosa. Super athletic with poor technique and no idea on what he's doing once he starts moving. Way too many of his sacks came from him working inside. That won't fly in the NFL when he'll have to grapple with top end tackles.

Yeah I'm with Phoenix. Read up a bunch. In a strong class this guys is round 2.
He needs work. Not someone you take at 12 imo. Not to say he won't evolve into a good player over time tho.

I wonder what his 3 cone drill time will be. Former WR and Safety in high school should have the footwork to change direction easily.
I know he's a project but it might be a really big mistake passing on this kid. He's just scratching the surface.

Obviously he didn't come out. But he was the 2nd best EDGE in the 2020 class right behind Chase Young with one less sack and two less TFL, and this from playing practically only 3 years at the EDGE Position. Chase Young played EDGE all throughout his career and this kid became second best to him in just 3 years of playing EDGE? He would've went top 5 last season, he opted out and focused on football and the draft it's not like he had a bad injury or just sitting around. He might even be better than his 2019self focusing on his technique. If he drops to #12 He's the BPA in my book. I wouldn't hesitate.

If the Niners wants a Nick Bosa-Chase Young potential type of pass rush, draft Gregory Rousseau. He doesn't have to start right away, he can play the Aldon Smith role on his rookie year. AA is the starting end on base downs anyway. He can come in and just rush the QB on passing downs. They can afford to develop this kid and still contribute from the get-go. It will be well worth it.

I think he'll be higher on our board than most people here are thinking. I agree that I'm skeptical of the opt outs, especially in guys who needed the reps.
