If you follow Fields at all(and as a football analyst Orlovsky should) then you know a few things.

His social media is all football and not used a ton.
Despite being the slam dunk #2 prospect in this class if he didn't play this year due to covid(which would've given him a good few months to prep for the NFL) he fought to play football this year.
He played hurt and balled out doing so during the playoffs when his team needed him

Now that doesn't mean Fields isn't lazy but it certainly doesn't point to a guy who doesn't love the game or doesn't care about being great.

So knowing all that Dan decides to regurgitate comments from NFL teams about Fields being lazy, not committed. Not from people close to Fields.

He then sees the outrage to his comments and it takes him a day to check with people close to Fields to hear just the opposite. Hell he even admits teams are trying to spread misinformation this time of year.

Yet your dumbass had no qualms doing their dirty business about a young kid and making him look lazy in the public eye? Especially when you know the old biases vs black QBs?

Creative idea. Personally, I'd love to try to land a 1st in 2022(or in 23 when the Niners also don't own a 1st round pick) for Jimmy...something like Jimmy and a 3rd for the Patriots 1st round pick next year would be my dream scenario.

We're gonna gloss over this? This is a not a good stat to be bad at. My assumption is that this stat doesn't count plays where Fields is pressured and escapes to pick up positive yards with his legs. That's not a pass attempt in the boxscore, so it doesn't affect his 'Under Pressure Rating' passing, but it is a positive net gain. Either way I don't like the looks of this stat. Forget how it compares to the other two QBs, in a vacuum it's not good.

Only thing I know orlovsky for is him running into the back of the endzone for a safety. After knowing that idk how this guy gets any credibility. Yeah he was an NFL qb but he is still terrible and obviously this guy has no awareness.

I wonder if this would lead to the proclivity to drop his reads and go straight to the run in instances where he shouldn't.

Does anyone know if it accounts for how well the o-line picked up the blitz? What I mean is Mac Jones line may have protected him better vs Fields or Lance etc.

It's not ideal, but I'd bet it's a combination, I've spoken before about them not helping him out with motion and hot routes.

There's also a clear case of him failing to identify the blitz pre snap.

Since then I've also thought of a few more things, first is sample size, I've seen him throw 3 interceptions under pressure, 2 his fault playing hero ball, another where Sermon turned a route upfield that he shouldn't have.

Also like you've said he gets no credit in this stat for beating the blitz and running.

The final thing is that Ohio State had 300 practices cancelled this season, and lost a whole host of players to the Covid list, this had to have disrupted timing and blitz pickup.

I have another two games to go, but I think this stat is an outlier. He's not great against the blitz, but not inept as this stat shows.

I'd be interested to see the same stat from 2019.

Right. It doesn't matter how he's pressured. It can be from a blitz (quick pressure), it can be from him holding the ball too long and putting his OL in a tough spot to have to pass protect too long. If I understand that stat correctly, it's simply how does he perform throwing the ball when there is pressure applied. Is he getting the ball out quick enough and to an open target.

Nice little mashup of Fields under pressure in the 2020 season:

The blitz pickup is an area I'm very excited to have a veteran Center like Mack on board for. We really do have an offense built for a young talented QB I think. Major veteran presence on the O-line between Mack and the Silverback and lots of weapons.

Some guys are just built for making really quick decisions. When I watch him play, I don't see him being naturally gifted in that department. Can a good coach help him improve in that area? Probably to a certain degree...This is my major area of concern with Fields because there's a lot to like about him.

Steve Young had an interesting comment on KNBR the other day. The asked him what he would choose at QB between 1) Great processor/Good athlete or 2) Good Processor/Great athlete...he said he'd take the great processor.
