I like Lawrence a lot. He's 1a for me next to Fields' 1b. My point being I've never seen anyone on TV break him down the way they have Fields, Jones, Wilson or Lance.

He's getting a pass because... well, just because.

Some have started to question whether he's this generational prospect that he's been touted as.

They don't talk about him as it's so obvious that the Jags are taking him at #1, there's really no debate to be had.

I agree with you that Fields is closer to Lawrence than to #4, but Zach Wilson has made a very compelling case to be in the mix for #2.

I am surprised that it seems a done deal though, there should be a very strong debate going on.

People love Wilson because of the unique arm angles that he throws from and the varied platforms. It immediately invokes the likeness of Rodgers and Mahomes, but a lot needs to be addressed here. He is inconsistent, has a slight frame, s**t the bed against the best opposition, has had injuries to his throwing shoulder and his competition has been trash.

No question he has special talent, but he is by no means a cant miss prospect.

I agree, I also think the draft has proven that there's no such thing as a can't miss prospect, yet that doesn't stop everyone thinking that their picks are going to be!

Our landing spot is special though, the coaches and roster talent mean it would take something epic for them to fail, so I do think we should be looking at ceilings, rather than bust proof players.

I agree. We are in the very rare position to seriously set ourselves up for a potential dynasty. I use that word sparingly because there have only been a handful since I've been alive ('89), but we have a shot.

What every dynasty in today's salary cap era is a quarterback who can carry a team even during roster turnover. You're going to have a couple of mediocre, or even bad years. But if your quarterback is special it makes everything else so much easier.

I feel like Lawrence and Fields can be those guys, I just pray we dont miss on the later.

Convince me that Fields isn't going to be a bust like so many other OSU QBs taken early in the draft?

This has to be our guy...now ay we traded up so high for any of the others.

Still hoping we somehow land Wilson.

Guess it's time to take a deep dive into this thread...

There's only been one OSU QB taken early in the draft in the past 35 years.

I wonder what height, weight and speed, make you a precise passer who can diagnose defenses? What ever that is, I'm sure fields could lose weight and run slower to get there. Hopefully his height is not the dealbreaker!

I don't believe RG3 was 223. Dude looked like a skinny WR.

Yeah, I don't believe that weight either.

Fields lost a lot of value based on his play vs Alabama and NW

i dont think think hes as close to wilson and Lawrence as he is to mac jones

Interesting that Trevor Lawrence is seen as a generational QB and seemingly getting a pass on any flaws since he is going #1 and Justin Fields despite being just as talented and just as highly ranked since high school is getting nitpicked to death and could drop closer to 10 then 1.

What does it say when Urban Meyer isn't spending 2 seconds thinking about Fields? He wasn't his coach but he does personally know him (had him in his leadership course) and knows everything about him because he was at the OSU program for the past decade including the past 2 years.

He's in love with Lawrence though. Thinks he's one of the best QB prospect to ever come out. But Fields isn't dropping to 10. It's smoke and mirrors.

I don't think it says a lot, when you put Trevor's tools with his production it really is a no brainer. You can't pass on him to have him go on to be what everyone thinks he's going to be. Would be the fastest way to get fired.

Trevor has been touted as the #1 overall pick since he entered the league and won the Natty

Agreed that it says what people think of Lawrence. Which isn't necessarily a slight on Fields.

Surprisingly the combine posted that weight. I don't think they can fudge that.

I'd say that if Lawrence wasn't there, Fields would most likely be Urban's pick at #1. So to say he isn't considering him at all is probably inaccurate.

OH and he's black don't forget that....no way Grant could say Jimmy G who's 6-2 and 226lbs, who ran a straight up air raid offense at Eastern Illinois.

Fields build is identical to Dak... Wilson ran a 4.5 I'd say he turned out just fine too
23 more days til Justin Fields is taking your QB of the future
Good quick synopsis of why I don't think Jones makes sense with guys like Fields/Lance on the board.

Orlovsky has talked to both Fields and Day in the wake of his comments. "Justin didn't have to take my phone call," Orlovsky said. "He could have said, Screw that guy. I told him exactly what happened, said I wasn't good enough in that moment, and that's on me. He was like, I get it. It's okay. I watch, and I know you're someone who's had my back. I appreciate you calling me. I felt like he was really mature, and I appreciated him hearing me out."

i dont think think hes as close to wilson and Lawrence as he is to mac jones

I don't think the Bama game has anything to do with his value. If anything, he was praised for his toughness and competitiveness for playing the whole game hurt and with no Sermon.

The NW and Indiana games were definitely magnified, though, but from all I've heard and read, Fields has too much tape of great, consistent performances to get knocked too hard. Lawrence has had some rough games, too, but the kid has been crowned the day he stepped on Clemson's field.
