To me it just makes way more sense that simms...as a very good friend....tells the media whats in favor for kyles plans than spoilering his pick and harming kyle....

I'm assuming the 49ers wanted the #3 and the Dolphins said ok , but get us a pick in the top 6. I, again, think the destination was #3, only acquire #5 or #6 to give the Dolphins what they wanted and was already discussed with them.

The bolded makes a lot of sense as to why SF was poking around trying to get the #5 pick. It's not that their targeted QB would be at #5, it's that they were helping MIA move out of #3, but stay in the top 10.

Exactly. They have someone at #3 they want. You can assume Lawrence is gone. They felt good about what they gave up for either Fields, Wilson or Lance. Sorry, no way I can add Jones in that list.

Simms admitted last year that he knew Kyle was high on aiyuk, but stayed quiet to not tip his hand. So why would he want to tip kyles hand this year???

He already proved that last year with Brandon Aiyuk
Anyone know if they will have video/recording at Fields next pro day?

SF probably called CIN (#5) first since CIN isn't picking QB and asked if CIN wanted to move to 12. CIN said 'no'.
So SF calls PHI at #6 and asked if PHI wanted to move to 12. Boom.

Agree. If the 49ers wanted a good QB, they could have stayed at #12 and gotten a first round QB, but not the kind of athlete with the playing history of the top 3 picks. I always maintained that a *big part* of the reason they paid such a high price was to buy time to investigate the top QB that they could get at the highest pick that they could get.

They already knew that next years QB crop was dismal (so the articles I've read said that). So giving up this years #12 and next years first round was a no brainer, I think the big struggle was that 3rd first rounder that that they ultimately had to give (I believe) in 2023. I think that cemented the month long deep dive investigation process for all five (Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, Mac, Lance) that is underway now. Now they have the luxury of investigating without having to worry about somebody jumping ahead of them. In my mind, I think that's worth a very high round pick, just to get that time to spend with all the top three QB's on the board. I think the Pettis, Solomon, Rueben and Hurd picks have taught them to really investigate and medical history the intangibles of these high round picks, and to do that, you need time.

Why not divulge it if there is no danger of Kyle losing out on the guy he wants? I think the odds of the Jags and Jets trading out of their respective picks is slim to none. So why not tell it all? Afterall, Kyle can always change his mind after Chris reveals the possible pick too. Their last week's interview they basically said they have nothing to hide now.

I think it's being EXTREMELY, CRIMINALLY underreported that Fields had offers from Harvard and Yale in 2018. Looking at their recruiting over the years, Harvard is as selective as you would imagine. Between 2016-2021, they averaged 104 offers with only 4.2 offers going to 4-star players. Yale sent out more offers, 175.3 with 7.5 being to 4-stars. Yale offered a 5-star qb last year, but other than that, neither team has offered a 5-star in at least the last 10 years (as far back as I looked). Point being: these schools aren't just sending out offers to blue-chippers on the off-chance they accept. You've got to meet their notoriously high academic standards.

Ivy League offers from the other QBs:
Lance: 2 (Brown and Cornell)
Jones: ZERO
Lawrence: zero
Wilson: zero

It's really sad that the media hasn't picked up on this. Fields is probably one of the smartest players in this draft, or at least the hardest working.

That is good to know. I don't think regular IQ necessarily correlates to football IQ, but it makes it easier to root for a guy who works hard and is well spoken. Alex Smith was pretty damn smart and likable too, but actually pretty slow in the football IQ category. My best guess is that it's a combination of great vision and enough intelligence to anticipate what defenses are going to try to do. I think Shanahan will make successes out of any of these dudes. They all seem to be pretty solid guys who will get a lot of support from a good team.

The team doesn't get anything from divulging it, so why bother? The team didn't disclose who they wanted at #2, even though it was pretty obvious both times they were at that draft spot.

I know I'm a nerd for this, but Lance passed on Brown and Cornell for NDSU 😭

I might be wrong, but a few schools wanted him to change position. None of them got very far.
