Because Fields isn't as good as Lawrence.

Yeah, Lawrence is better than Fields.

Ever heard of some guy named Trevor Lawrence?

I think fans are getting bored of him, but 6'6" QB's with rocket arms and who are mobile just don't come around often.

I'll bet money if the Jags were drafting 2nd overall they'd be taking Fields

Sounds like something the Jaguars would do
16 days boys! 16 days until we draft Justin Fields and this team is winning for rings for the next 10+ years.

As a prospect he's not. However if Jags draft Lawrence(they will) and we draft Fields(hopefully we do) I can easily see Fields having the better NFL career.

Where guys go matters.

Give Fields one more reciever like a Deebo or Aiyuk (maybe its Mohamed sanu) and this guy will be in the playoffs as long as he's healthy. If he's picked I'm going back to all my old Steve Young tapes and seeing if they will play with the same style and mechanics.

That right there. It will be a blessing for Justin Fields to be selected by the 49ers and I'm sure he and his camp have talked to Kyle and Lynch about that. I believe this private workout will feature more talking and getting to know each other more than Fields demonstrating his already well known physical talents.

Well this draft is loaded with like 90% slot receivers so it's a good time to need that position filled.
Not sure why people think Fields couldn't start right away. Our defense will be good and our offense has the ability to make things simple for him. Sure it's not ideal but if you are spending that much on him I think it would be beneficial to at least let him compete for the starting job and if its close then go with him.

I will go as far as to say I think Mac Jones could have a better career coming here than Lawrence going to the Jags and I am on record as having Jones as a worse prospect than either in several measurable ways. I think our system and our coaching give who ever comes here such a leg up over anyone in a position to pick a QB this year that it cant be over stated, and all of them are strong enough prospects to have really good careers. It is just clear that Lawrence and Fields are more advanced (Lance, Wilson) or more talented (Jones) than the others by a visible margin.

Its debatable if Lawrence is better then Fields as a prospect. They have been 1A-1B since high school.

We have the luxury of not, why do what isn't ideal if you don't have to? If someone offers you a fortune for Jimmy, it becomes a different story. But having the kid...ANY kid at least get into the regular season and be with the team for a while, learning the system, learning game prep, learning game speed, that has tremendous value. Jimmy is probably going to get hurt somewhere around half way through anyway, let things happen naturally.

Youngs mechanics were considerably better...not sure you can change fields broken throwing motion. He also gets dined up alot. He plays hurt so he's tough but as a college qb he got hurt quite a bit taking bad sacks inside the pocket many if which were his fault. Knee injury vs Penn St., lower leg injury vs Michigan, rib injury vs clemson, thumb injury vs northwestern, broken finger at Georgia on his throwing hand are just some of the injuries he's indured.
